Maybe look beyond the engine first. Try a set of rear differential gears. I don't know what axle the T-bird has, but if it is the 8.8" like the mustang, get a set of 3.73's before you do anything! Also look at an H-pipe.

I was thinking on gears and a programer or a 3" x pipe w/ highflow cats. But its a hard decission.

Unless you are making a lot of power a 2-1/2" system will be more than enough.

Gears really wake up a car, especially if you have a poor gear to start (I had 2.73's ).

Of course a nice exhaust system is also nice. I had a Dyno max cat back that I didn't really like until I added my off road H-pipe, then it sounded awesome.

I would go with gears and exhaust first then think about bigger things like the PI heads. If you never intend to change the heads, you can still do little things that will help such as a larger mass air meter (some of the Mustang units will work) and an upper intake spacer (check for hood clearance).
