Track Times, need help
Allright, i went to the track last week and bombed. I was expecting somewhere in the 14's and ended up getting 15.5 on my lowest run. If anyone has some advice on my runs, please let me know. Here are my times.
1st run(missed 2nd, oops!) r/t 1.306 60' 2.343 330 7.053 1/8 10.714 mph 66.95 1000 13.799 1/4 16.299 mph 90.42 2nd run r/t 1.121 60' 2.356 330 6.712 1/8 10.171 mph 70.32 1000 13.133 1/4 15.564 mph 92.60 Any advice would be appreciated. thanks |

60' 2.356
Drag Radials (Maybe some Nittos?) With practice, you could consistently see sub-2.0 sec 60 foots... New shifter will have you reliably shifting, as a missed shift kills a 1/4 mile time...

im shifting as close to redline as i can without going over. Ive heard 1 rpm before redline is where im buppost to be. I raced tonight again and have new times. Unfortanatly they are all in the 15's. i will have them posted as soon as i can.

just like hammmer said you need to get those 60's down I cut 1.9s every now and then (stock tires with 40k on them) but most of the time im at 2.0s and with bad track prep i might go as bad as 2.1 but this is all on the stock tires

from the looks of your times, id say practice practice practice! Is this your first stick? everything takes time, just dont give up and drive it like you stole it!

yep, you can pick up a half second on your 60' just by paying attention to your wheelspin. try letting out the clutch until it JUST starts to engage. when the third amber lights, slip the clutch while applying slow but even throttle, trying not to shock the tires.

I agree with these guys.It takes time, and lots of practice.Try different rpms off the line.Change your shift points.See what works best for you.You are losing most of your ground off the line.Try to get that reaction time down.Leave when you see the 3rd amber just like Snakeman said.You won't redlight.It will not affect your times, but if the guy you're racing pulls a .500 light and you are at 1.3, you just lost about 7-8 carlengths, regardless if you run a faster time.I don't know where you are shifting , but it should be close to 6000, watch how many rpms you are dropping in between gears, and check to see if you are getting any faster at shifting.Let us know how you come out.Have you tried dropping your tire pressure down?That could help you off the line a little.Oh yeah, go AROUND the water.

I think these guys are being too optimistic your 92mph trap speed tells the whole story.
You could work on your 60ft and run a 15.0 on slicks but your problems come from a lack of HP.

the half second spent spinning the tires in first gear would be better used accelerating. if the tire spin goes away, the trap speed will come up due to more time actually accelerating.
i would expect 98+ mph trap speeds with practice.

Being a little pessimistic are we?15s on slicks?Improving his driving will definitely increase his trapspeed.He has more than enough horsepower to be in the low 14's on street tires given some practice launching it.Keep trying Phly you'll get it.

Oh man I just assumed he had a 96GT. Running those times with an 03 just shows that you need lots of practice.

Wow, thanks for all the advice everyone. I do have to admit i feel like the launch is the worst part of my run. Either i spin the tires too much or ill dump the clutch and the car will choke and kill my time. As far as shifting i feel like im getting much better at it driving around town and just jumping from light to light. I SHOULD go around the water? My friend i was there with told me to warm my tires in it. He also told me to put my foot on the brake while they were spinning. He said my brakes are 80% in the front and 20% in the back so if i do that my tires will spin till they smoke. I didnt take his advice thinking if hes wrong and my brakes burn up, what will he care? its not his car. Anyway i just spun them in the pit a little bit before i ran but it didnt seem to help. Thanks again for the advice everyone and ill get my new times up as soon as i can.

Ok
Drive around the water Run about 25 psi in the rear tires dont burn out just chirp the tires to clean off any debri Rev it to about 3000rpms and slip the clutch coming out of the whole gradually giving it more gas. I was able to pull 2.1's in my bone stock 01 cobra with the crappy IRS rear. Good luck,

stay out of the water!
with street tires, the water collects in the tread. then when you pull to the line, you look like a fool as the water pools around the tires at the launch pad, sending you up in smoke with the slightest nudge of the happy pedal.
slicks----> use water Treaded tires ------>i do my burnout where the pad is moist, not wet. don't back into the water!!!!!!!!! goood luck!
