Thunderbird and Cougar Club of America Your engine and trans are essentially the same as a 96-97 Mustang. The main difference is your intake manifold. In fact, 96-97 T-bird intake manifolds were the exact same as the Mustang. Many aftermarket parts will bolt right on, and others will fit with slight modification. We have guys in our club with engines from cars such as '96-03 Mustang, '02 Explorer, 96-98 Cobra's, etc. 160 rear wheel horsepower to well beyond 500.
