Steeda "intake" spacer???
Does anyone run what Steeda calls an intake spacer?
It's actually an upper plenum spacer, correct? They say it adds 2 to 3 rwhp For only $70... great deal, if its true! Easy install too!

Don't waste your time with the "STEEDA" spacer. If you want a spacer you can get a "Phenolic" ( special plastic) spacer off e-bay for under $20 bucks. I got one a year back when I was jonesing for anything to do to the car, even if it did not work. I paid 15 bucks plus 3 bucks shipping. Installed quickly and never noticed any difference. If I had paid $70 plus shipping I would have kikked myself in the AZZ.

The Plunum guys, like C&L, all claim that a spacer is not needed.

So Steeda's claim of a 2 to 3 hp gain is not true??
I would think that they have dyno tested to prove their advertising, no? I hate it when these companies out there claim on thing, but in REAL life their product doesnt help!! lol Thanks guys

spacers work! a little. But with a plenum, they are not needed. If you are going to go to the effort of pulling everything out, might as well add a plenum. Then you do it only once. That's my position.

Well it looks like to add the spacer its just 4 bolts, a few bucks, and a 2 hp gain.. I think its worth it. I'm gonna get one.
Maybe a plenum someday, dont have the $$ right now for that Thanks for the input

What I meant is this, to install the spacer, you have to remove the existing intake plenum, hoses, and throttle cable. To me, it makes the most sense to just install a new TB and Plenum all at the same time and ditch the spacer idea. If you need to hold-off on the parts due to funds, then so be it. No big deal.
I think often times we do things just to feel like were doing something instead of being smart. Been there done that.

Well I dont mind the labor involved.. I dont care about tearing it all down and then having to do it all again when I can afford the better plenum and tb
Its a hobby for me and gives me a reason to be outta the house! So I just assume add everything little thing I can And if adds little to none power, then atleast I know its there, doing something atleast. haha They claim it keeps down the heat transfer from the lower intake to the plenum... therefore running slightly cooler air. I dunno if it's believable or not.. lol

I would not waste the money on a 70 pos if you dont have the money I would put that 70$ it a savings account and save till you can get some mods that will help
I just hate to see poeple spend money on mods that do nothing spacers work on the 5.0 cause both the upper and lower were made of alum. so they helped the upper from building heat but on the 4.6 GTs the lower is plastic so there now reason for them THEY ARE WASTE ON MONEY but if you really want one get it from ebay there are ton of used ones out there cause no one wants them cause they do nothing

Plastic intakes have been used for a good while now. Not just by Ford, but just about every manufacturer.
Its all about money. There alot cheaper to make than metal ones. |

Personally I would not spend 70.00 bucks that Steeda wants...but I personally have bought one from a guy on Ebay for 29.00 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2465303545 ). Yes in the "day" a spacer would act as a heat shield and increase the plenum length. Now, it is basically used to increase the plenum length...I'm guessing from other friends experiences that it works much better on 96-98 2V's because the plenum length is shorter on these intakes...as for 99+ 2V's...I'd say the spacer wouldn't be as effective because of the already added length plenum design. For what it's worth...in my experience with my 98', it made a difference in the lower RPM range...not much.

If you really want to work on the car for a project then just get a piece of 1/2 inch plywood and trace out the shape of the opening. Cut and drill the plywood and install. Less than 5 bucks for a useless spacer. If that sounds stupid then paying 70 bucks sounds rediculous. Spend that 70 somewhere else. a 70mm T/B is like 120 on e-bay and that's new!

JBeryleC,
Think about this. You say that the intake spacer seems worth it at $70 for a 2rwhp gain (if you even get that). But you said the Kenne Belle 6psi non-intercooled twin screw was expensive for a 106rwhp gain. That comes to almost exactly the same $/hp. I realize that not everyone has the money to buy a blower, but don't waste yours on a spacer. If anything just buy an upper plenum for between $100-200 that actually gives you a proven gain and is optimized without a spacer.

Yes I know. The spacer question was done with a while back.. when someone finely told me that the lower intake is plastic!! So there is no need for a spacer to damper heat transfer. Cause there is no heat transfer.. lol
Done deal. Thanks
