I think only the Cobras have ever had IRS. The -05 GT was in consideration for IRS, but they dumped it due to cost and the fact that a solid rear is better for drag racing. The new Cobra (when it arrives) is supposed to continue with IRS.

You are 100% correct. Only 1999,2001,2003,2004 cobras have IRS. Not other mustang. The rest have solid 8.8 axles. Alot of Cobra owners sell their IRS for a solid axle for drag racing so IRS can be come by really cheap and it is not that hard of an install to put IRS on a V6, GT, Mach1. Hope this helped.

This has been a lot of help, thank you all much!
The reason I was asking was because I do NOT want the irs... so I am glad to hear that the GT's dont have it. Soon to get a '99 - '02 GT convert.... I cant wait Thanks again!

They are correct. Only cars w/ IRS are 99+ Cobras. And honestly, most of those owners who are serious about drag racing, switch to a solid rear axle.
Also, a stock 8.8 Solid Axle, is much more stout than ppl. give it credit for IMO. -Will
