I might be wrong, but, if you are talking about what Ii think you are talking about (strut tower brace), they are aftermarket (used to stiffen your front end), and only weigh between 5 and 10 lbs. I would think 10 would definately be an overestimate.

it the brace that goes over the engine. the v6's didn't even come with one so i was thinking of just taking that out(no new one)

i want my car to wiegh less more than i want it to be stiff

Does it bolt to the strut towers, and the back (just above the firewall)? If so, it doesnt weigh that much. You can take it out, they dont come stock with them, so it isnt a needed thing. Maybe I am thinking of something else. Can you get a pic of what you are talking about?

you got it right. It bolts to the strut towers and the fire wall, it come stock on the 94-98 gt.

Every little bit helps right, as long as it doesn't make my can handle worse.
Or is it not even worth taking out(only has 8 bolts total)

What is something i can remove that wieghs a lot? Thanks

I dont think they came stock on them, but I have been known to be wrong. It shouldnt have too much of a negative effect, as long as you dont turn fast, or road race, I wouldnt think.

Is your car a convertible? My 96 gt convertible has the strut tower brace, stock.

it's a coupe. Im 99% sure it stock on all 94-98 GT's. The one on their now was there when i got it, i don't think the person that had it before me did anything performance wise.

As I already said, I have been known to be wrong before. I'll have to check into that. Maybe there was some type of design flaw in the 94-98's that would require a strut tower brace to rememdy, for safety purposes. I really dont know, but I would think that if they started using them, they would have continued, unless the flaw was corrected in 99 when the new body style was introduced. Sorry if I gave misleading info.

IMO it's not worth taking off. It also helps prevent cowl shake (rattling) as your car gets older.
If you want to lose a bunch of weight in the front I would go with a tubular k-member and arms, coilovers, etc. Or you could pull the AC off...

Yeah, I think i will look into the k member and arms, will i be able to jack my car up on the tubular k member or will it be to weak?

why did they take the strut brace off on the 99+?

Thanks for the info

I guess it depends on which k-member you get, but I had the D&D motorsports piece and I jacked the car up with the part of the tube near where the A-arms mount and never had any problems. I have the Maximum Motorsports one now and it is plenty beefy.

Thanks for the info

I think 300$ for something that will lighten my car a few pound is a little steep right now but maybe in the future.

Im gonna save you for some 3.73's so i should be happy for a while.

It's a lot more than a few pounds. I took about 80 lbs off the nose of my car with tubular K-member, tubular A-arms, coilovers, brakes, and aluminum front swaybar (this is not just manufacturer's claims - the car is cornerweighted so I know exactly how much it weighs). Of course that stuff adds up to a lot more than $300 too.

They were stock until '98. In '98 they left them out.
