Default best exhaust for a 96 gt

Hey guys I got a 96 mustang gt coupe. I was wondering what is the best sounding exhaust for this car. I was thinking of getting a american thunder series exhaust from flowmaster with the super 40's I heard it gives you a nice deep tone and some good horsepower but I am not sure if this is a true statement or not any responses will be greatly apreciated. Thank you,
mustanggt

Mufflers don't add horsepower. I don't care what the companies say, the only ones that give any gain is magnaflow's because they're a straight through, and were talking maybe 5 hp.

Go with what you like the sound of and go to www.mustangexhaust.com to hear them. You have to sign up, but there are a ton of different combos on there.

In theory, the faster you can get the air in and the faster you get the air out, the faster you are gonna go. They dynoed a mustang with headers, H-pipe, & stock mufflers, ran the quarter w/passenger seat out,and iced down the intake, then bolted some dynomax muffs, dynoed again, LOST 7hp. but because reduced backpressure GAINED 65ft. lbs. of torque ran on the quarter w/passenger seat in, no ice, and ran faster with higher m.p.h. I went with an h-pipe w/no cats and flows.love the sound.,and if didn't gain any power, it sure DID feel and sound like it!!!I should also say that I believe that exhaust dosent give horsepower it just frees up the h.p. you already have. I guess sorta like how aluminum flywheels, and drive shafts dosen't give h.p. but allows more of it to be used, sorta. IMO nomatter the exhaust you choose you can't beat the sweet sound produced by a V8 mustang!

If you can afford it, use a stainless exhaust. Besides durability and good looks, stainless will give you a "hollower" tone. I currently have Magnaflow stainless pipes w/Mac stainless muflers. Awesome combo...make sure it's welded.

I had the aluminized...they are probably the most corrosion resistant mufflers I ever had. They also have stainless...

If your going to go with the Magnaflows, just be aware that they are not much louder than stock but have a deeper tone. The loudness increases as the stainless packing settles, this could take up to 3-4 months. You might want to look at the Magnapacks for loudness. I replaced my flows with stainless Macs, they are a good balance of sound without be overbearing.

Good luck...

65 ft/lb of torque from mufflers?

sounded like b.s. to me too, but that was what they wrote in MM&FF. It was in an artical about a 5.0 and some mufflers the had in the office they thought they would put to use. May just be another one of those "you can't believe everything you read" situations. I also have a friend with a '94 convert 5-speed with cold air, Trick Flow upper and lower intake, shorty BBK(chrome), H-pipe no cats, 24lb. injectors, 75 mm. BBk throttle body, short throw shifter, ford racing clutch and 3.73 gears. Most was added at the same time, and with everthing we read it should have been fast, nope, it only ran .3 sec. better in the 1/8 mile(9.5) than before mods.(9.8). He also got out ran by a stock Hemi regular cab twice! From what I've read, that should have never happened either.

I questioned what I remembered and went digging through old mags. I was wrong, sort of. The April 2003 vol. 16, no.4 of Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords was the issue the artical was in. The Mufflers they used in the test were Dynomax Ultra-Flos. The numbers on the dyno were 237 rwhp & 273 ft. lbs. with stock. 230 rwhp & 340 ft. lbs. with the Dynomax. That is a 67 ft. lb difference. The guy writing the artical had to buy everyone lunch that day because he was the only one betting that the stock muffs. wasn't hurting performance. I like the logistics smiliey,

Call me generic, but I like 2 chamber flows. I've also got a bassani catalytic x-pipe and the car sounds great...Always lots of turned heads and comments. Plus, setting off car alarms in parking garages is always fun! My trusty flows are gettin a bit rusty so may move on to the MAC's, which I've heard nothing but good things about.
