Default bbk longtube headers

Hey guys I just got a good deal on some brandnew bbk longtube headers ceramic's for $360. I have a 96 mustang gt and I have to install these. But everyone is telling me I have to drop my tranny. and remove my steering linkage and saying It is going to be a 8 hr. project. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for installation by myself and a friend or if it would just be easier to go to the local muffler man and have them install the whole exhaust.

thanks,
Monroe GT

I haven't done this yet, but I have heard that it is a big job due to the clearance issue. Call the local muffler shop first and make sure they know what the heck they are doing. Some won't go near headers, period.

im not a 4.6 man by any means or claim to know alot about them.. but from what ive heard, you'd have to drop the k-member for the install.. if thats my daily driven car.. seems like id want a qualified shop to do the work, and NOT a muffler shop... FWIW, i agree with the post on top of this, a muffler shop will NOT touch a header install, they wont touch an off road pipe install either.. just food for thought.

Dropping the K-member is actually the best way to go about it; not the only way, but one of the least frustrating ways. At our shop, we'd charge 6 to 8 hours labor depending on the car & headers.

You can definitely do it in your own garage on a set of jackstands, but a lift makes all the difference in the world.
