Is it the bolt that's on top of the starter? That one had me blurting out a few choice words!

yep that is the crazy bolt that i had to fight with for like 2 hours. i had to use a real big extension, put it through the front and my father in law was on the other side putting the socket on by just feel. and i had to turn the rachet on the other side. it was a mess and it was real hot that day but we finally got it done. kmauldin we will have to get together on other issues about our stangs. you know we will probably run into other issues lol

You bet. I guess that's why we're all here...trying to play mechanic. Take it easy.

I hope you did not put the top bolt back in........the starter works fine without it.

If I left that bolt out, it would be my luck that one of the other one's would break and the starter would fall out while I'm going down the highway. I'm not debunking what anyone thinks, but I tend to believe the automakers pay a lot of money to engineers who design and plan how this stuff should go together and if they designed it with 3 bolts, it should have 3 bolts. That bolt on top of the starter will certainly take years off your life though!
