Ported heads w/blower
I will be getting a Supercharger within a few weeks and was wondering how much addtn'l HP will I get with ported heads. I'm thinking of going with the Speedlab blower used on the S281 because it's intercooled and the torque is unreal on a stock car. I also like the idea that Saleen re-burns the board for better tuning & almost 10 lbs of boost are made by 3,000 rpms. With the converter, I will be in the boost all of the time. I'm guess with all of the mods I have, plus ported heads and the blower, I should be around 350 rwhp. Is this reasonable? Thanks

350 rwhp with 10 psi intercooled boost? That's possible considering your other mods. But instead of porting the heads I would seriously consider replacing the rods and pistons. They aren't the strongest in the world. May save you an expensive repair sometime later.

I heard that the Vortech kicks the crap out of the Saleen blower. You will loose psi in the intercooler. I know that you will see a 30-40hp inprovement with the ported heads with the blower. You could possible see 370 at the fly but not at the rear wheels.

I realize that the Vortech blower makes more HP, but less torque and at a much higher rpm. Since my car never sees a track, the Saleen blower would be much better on the street and with good tires, would also be good on the track. The specs on a Stock 99 GT w/Vortech are rated at 398 hp/393 ft lbs, but at about 6000 rpms. The Saleen Blower makes 350 hp @ 5000 rpms & 410 ft lbs @ 3000 rpms. Plus I like the cleaner look of the Saleen and I'm not a fan of drilling holes into my oil pan.

EXAM1999-
I agree with you 100% I too am looking into that unit. Are you planning on purchasing the kit and installing yourself or are you going to bring your 'Stang to a Saleen dealer for install? If you install yourself, can you post on the board how much the kit was and how difficult it was to install? Thanks. ------------------ 99 Laser Red GT Mods: 70mm TB, Level 10 Chip, FMS 3.73's, Sean Hyland Speedo Recalibration kit, Pro 5.0 Shifter, & Pro-M 77mm MAF. I'm currently having my stock 99 GT heads ported. These heads are will work great on blower cars. Exhaust went from 146cfm to 186cfm after porting. Anyone interested in Brand New ported 99 GT heads E mail me as I can get you brand new heads already ported so you have very little down time and will take your used ones in trade. The price is right too.

Thanks for the Info John. I will definitely do it once I save after the blower install. I just spoke to my contact at Saleen and I'm on the waiting list. It should be here right around Christmas. A gift to myself. I also confirmed that they do not use a chip and the board is re-burned which is much better in my opinion. They are one of the only companies that Ford allows to do that. Anyway, with the free flowing exhaust & Pro-M77, He mentioned that I should see about 375 hp & about 430-440 ft lbs. That is definitely good enough to get into the 12s with traction. With the Heads that John mentioned, who knows how nasty this would be.

Sorry Kg I forgot to answer your question. The kit is $3,295 complete w/intercooler & re-burn of your computer. It is suppose to be silent and have tons of torque. If you can get your hands on MM&FF 12/99 issue, it has all of the Saleens and it shows they were able to get the S281 to a best of 13.07/105.83 with 3.08 gears & slicks. With 3.27s or 3.55s(they can re-burn your computer for gears up to 3.55s), you should see 12s. It's not the fastest, but there are no holes in the pan and absolutely no tuning problems.
