Bad Axle Bearings
I took my car to a local performance shop to figure out what is making that grinding noise in the rear. They told me that it was not my differential as I previously thought, but instead my axle bearings! After looking in the manual, I think I have decided to take on this job myself. Have any of you done this before or have any pointers? Also, is this a common problem with late model Mustangs?

Yes, according to my mechanic it is. I had mine replaced when I did my gears. It was only $10 more over the gears installation. I don't know if you have to pull the rear end apart to do it or not.

You don't have to pull the ring and pinion out or the differential, all you have to do is pull the keeper pin out of the middle, slide your axles in, pull out the C-clips and then slide the axles out. With them out of the way you have access to the bearings.
