If you could afford the 99, get the 99. I was faced with this same choice and I'm glad I bought the 99. There are alot of differences besides peak power. The brakes are better, stronger engine block(Windsor vs Romeo), internals, better flowing heads & more.

The '99-'00 have a higher flatter torque curve through-out the powerband, which makes the car feel better, especially down low. The extra 40 hp doesn't hurt either. As far as styling, that's a personal opinion.

Go with the 99/00'GT unless you can find a nice 98' Cobra.

As much as I love my 98, a 99-00 is a much better starting point for a performance enthusiast. Go for it!

My first choice would be a 98 (no older) Cobra. The 99 GT will be my second choice. I don't think the 98GT will even be among my choices if I want to go fast even if mildly moding it.

AFM B-2 cam; 70mm TB; lakewood 70/30 drag struts, Mac fenderwell cold air induction. Performance Inprovement Harness

96 Cobras are still good brothers..

If you are talking GT, the 99 is the choice. I like the extra horsepower, the looks and the fat torque curve makes it an easy decision.

The 99/00 is definetly the way to go. It will be a little more expensive. Everybody knows the 99/00 is much faster, but it also has better handling than the 98. The truning of the 99/00 is once inch better than the 98.
i have gotten to drive both of these cars and the 99/00 is such a better all around car. Plus the extra ponies make it that much more fun.

I aso have a stock 96 GT.
