tie rods?
I hear sqeaking from the front end at low speeds and when going over speed humps, train tracks, etc. I have been told by the serv dept @ a Ford dealership that I need new tie rods. The car is a '98 GT convertible w/ 70,000 miles. Does anyone have a similar experience? I have been told that there is a Ford technical service bulletin. Are the contents of these bulletins posted anywhere on the internet?
Thanks for any help. |

my '96 GT with 48,000 miles did the same thing. A lot of squeeking when turning also. the Ford service dept. told me it was my outer tie rod ends and said they could replace them and give me an alignment for about $160.
I bought one tie rod end for the passenger side(where I heard all the squeeking) and replaced it myself in about 15 minutes. And the part only cost $20. No alignment needed as long as you don't move the adjustment. Good luck ------------------ FOR SALE: 1996 Mustang GT 48,500 miles, loaded, $13,500 |

I have had the same problem with my car, although, I've only had this problem with post 95 models. I know the suspension shouldn't be a whole lot different from year to year, but the fact is, Ford did change the suspension, even if it was insignificant. Anyway, I got the fix and haven't had a problem since. Tie rods are easy to change BTW. Takes no time really.

i think i have this problem on my snake right now.. can you really change them w/out an alignment? my 18 inch wheels make finding an alignment shop very difficult. can one of you explain the install? i've never removed them before.. thanks!
