idle variating-what is it?
Hi, I just bought a 2000 GT about a month ago. My problem is that the idle varies quite a bit when I am sitting still. It will go from 500 to 1000 (and the a/c is not on). Twice it has stalled on me. Any thoughts on what this could be???

The first thing I always check with idle hunt problems is the TPS voltage. I had an idle problem after installing a 70 mm T/body because, like everyone else, I assumed it was correct and bolted it on. After checking it with my DVOM, I found that the idle voltage was 1.07 which caused the computer to add fuel thinking I was at part throttle causing the idle to hunt. I correct it and the car idles better than stock with the ton of mods I have added at around 720(in park, 600 in gear) rpms. Anyway, don't assume it is right just because it's a new car and check the TPS voltage. If the voltage is correct(between .75 & .99 volts), the IAC solenoid would be my next stop.

It sounds like you may have an air leak between the MAF and the Throttle body. On the factory inlet tube, there are is a plastic tube and a rubber hose that attach to the main inlet tube. Check to make sure everything is attached.
The plastic tube came loose on my 2000 GT and it did the same thing that you are describing. Or you all stock or do you have an aftermarket Tbody, MAF, or a cold air kit? |

First thing I would do is...TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER!! The car is under warranty. Take it to the dealer and just have them fix it. It's that simple.

Everybody gets a big "ditto" here.
The cause is most likely what was described here, the solution at this point is to make it some one elses well documented problem. |
