Do I need a chip?
Just came from the speed shop to scope out a cat free x-pipe and was told that I need a new chip or the check engine light will stay on.The dude claims that the chip will also give me a few extra ponnies. The chip is $390.I would appreciate and feedback on this.

All you need for an offroad x is a set of mil eliminators, there not expensive. The chip would be worthwhile if you are already moderatly modded or have an automatic. Its your call but i think 400 bucks could be spent wiser.

$400 bucks could buy you a set of 3.73's and have them installed. Just something to think about!!!

You can get the mil eliminators or you can get an X-pipe w/cats. You don't need a lot done to your car before a chip, but you should be a little further down the road than stock. My chip makes a difference, but if I change too much (which is likely cause I'm close to stock too) the chip has to be changed again, and there goes another $400!
I think if I did it again I'd go with cats. AB has no emissions testing, but when you go to places like say Dallas, you're screwed. ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

Yes a chip would turn of your check engine light but so will MILs from Dallas Mustang.com.
The MILs ar around $60.00 & work great. I agree with the other posts. Save the extra cash & use it towards other mods. |
