01 cobra or 01 GT or just wait for the 02
Come spring of 2002 I am looking to buy a new mustang and put up the old 87 LX to build for the track but I want a new pony for the street I was thinking of the 01 Cobra or GT but should I wait and find a 02 cobra or GT im looking to spend about 30-35000 on the car and I only plan on doing minor mods because I will be building the 87 LX for drag(nmra)EFI ren. I plan on useing a shot of the juice but dont know to much about the new motors and what they can handle stock plus pullies,h/x pipe cat back, cold air,and gears so so which one is a better buy not counting the cobra has more power to start off will.
thanx |

Well I'd go for the 01 Cobra since changes will be cosmetic not too sustantial.
If you can wait for the Mach 1 you would be impressed I think. Personally ... Cobra over the GT, any year. ------------------ K! Personalized Black 98 SVO Blown DVD/TV equipped daily driver Stage II ROUSH without the side exhaust Dyno 303rwhp 338rwtrq Still working out the kinks!!! |

If you've got that much to spend and don't plan on getting crazy with mods, I would get the 01 Cobra (especially with the 0% APR for 5 years that they are offering around here until the end of the month - they may have this at dealerships in your area also). They run low 13s stock and as long as ypu don't get them making too much power and try to put slicks on, you'll be alright with the independent rear.

Obviously I am biased on this one, but I don't understand the dilemma. If you have a set amount to spend and want to get all the performance add-ons you can for the money a GT + Blower + all the obligatory bolt ons... makes alot of sense, but staying mild with mods the Cobra has got to be the choice if you can spend that much. 320 vs. 265hp! It takes a few mods to gain 55hp. Not to mention, my seats are NICE, the polished wheels are cool (wish they were 18s though, but I'm not crying) and bonus style points too.
As far as the 2001 vs. 2002: 0% for 60 months will save me a few thousand dollars so now was the time to act, but if you need to wait then 2002 would be the way to go I don't expect dealers to give away 2001 Cobras below invoice or anything. There is a dealership in town putting a $5000 up sticker on Cobras I bought mine a few miles down the road for more than a thousand below sticker and got the 0%! I AM STOKED! Either way you go I know you'll be happy with your decision, good luck. Oh yeah, if your leaning toward GT then a Bullitt is cool or Mach 1 definately if it is made (unless you want a vert) Roush, Steeda... are also good options. Why not get a SVT Lightning, throw in a flip-chip, air injection kit, and a 4# lower blower pulley, and use it as a 12 sec tow vehicle (on stock F1's mind you) for your track only Stang.
With only those three mods, it makes a heck of a daily driver: able to do light towing, utilty of the bed, and able to wax LS1's while carrying some stacks of plywood ------------------ 1997 Thunderbird 4.6L: Dynomax cat-back, MN-12 perf. offroad downtubes and Y-pipe w/ Magnaflow resonator, 80mm MAF with cone filter, B&M trans cooler, Inject-Tech chip, MAC U/D pulleys, KVR front brake upgrade. 15.2 @ 91 before exhaust & pulleys. Not bad for a 3800lb auto 4.6L No Longer own: 91 LX 5.0L 5 spd |
