Question What is a Canister Purge Flow Sensor?

I need to know what a Canister Purge Flow sensor is? I had a check engine light on and I took it to the dealer and they said that I had a faulty Canister Purge Flow Sensor and it had to be replaced. I completly trust the service department there but I'm just interested to know what it is and what it does?
