random stuff
ok i have a question for car guys that have been around for a while... back in the 80s cars didnt have much power. like 200 horses was respectable for a sports car. now it seems like cars are getting more power all the time. the 03 cobra is a good example... when will it get to be too much. i mean they cant just keep giving cars more power forever. any thoughts on this and how far car makers will take it?

I believe that we are re-living the late 60's.
Cars are once again getting more power to the ground. We should enjoy it while we can because one thing is for sure: It won't last forever. Economic and environmental factors may once again have us going back to those anemic days of the mid 70's. You might not want to sell the hot rod THIS time around...

To bad the prices are not like in the 60's. Ho well if people were selling stangs and Z28's and TA's at $3,000. Then every one would have one. I would just like to know when doge is going to pull there heads out thie *****'s and make a fast car people can aford.

Back in the late 70's early 80's 200hp was a monster. Even the Vette was rated at 190hp for a while. The V-8 Mustang made 115hp from 1980-1981. That good old 255ci debored 302, lol.
I think of the new Cobra as more of a collector car. The Mach 1 on the other hand is a great car to go and get. It's also got a lot of collector value, but the pricing is going to be more reasonable, and it'll be a little less crazy on the streets. Hammer, we better not be reliving the 60s any time soon. I can't afford 8mpg, LOL. |

Yeah, we are definitley in a perfomance era again. But like you guys said, the dark ages for cars will be coming soon with all these damn hybrids and hydrogen powered cars. We sure as hell don't want see another '75-'86 where V8's barely made 100 hp.

ya, the old days were great! the late seveties early eighties sucked, and now you can by a Maxima with 265 Hp and the new VW Passat HW with 275Hp!! What's up with that? I'd say 400Hp will be MAX for any super street car. 300 to 350 would be my guess for the tops on Hp for a year or so and then the bottom will drop out and 150 Hp will be the best you will go. Legislation is already being worked on to do this by 2010. Maybe they will have a hydrogen , battery hybrid with 350Hp by the time my kids are driving ( 2011 ).
