Default exhaust recommendations

I'm looking at getting new exhaust for my GT around christmas time...I was looking at the Bassani X-Pipe w/ cats....out of my price range by a lot....then i saw flowmaster's american thunder set....supposed to be damn loud and add decent hp #s...can anyone comment on this particular set? and comment on them for my car?...also i'm open for suggestions on what you think makes the best deep throaty growl and the best hp #s....personal experience is always the best route!...btw im trying to keep the price tag under $500 w/o install.....

thanks
jonathon

Lots of ways to go of course. Try checking out the web sites that sell tested parts at a discount ( Brothers performance, Steeda, ). I got my BBK X- pipe for 170 bucks and that included shipping, got my flows for 125 bucks from a mustang rebuilder. Parts can be had for a lesser price!
Prsonnaly my car is VERY loud during certain times,1st gear 1000 - 2000 rpm range espesially. With the top down it can be almost annoying. Very rasspy sound at times. after second gear you barely hear it untill you get on it. The best thing is everyone loves it, even my wife who I thought would have a fit when I brought it home for the first time with the X pipe on it. As far as HP gains, well that is another deal in itself, you will see some gains but not tremendous, but it sure sounds like you have a hell of a lot more under the hood! I'm in the process of gutting my stock H pipe and making the cross section bigger to see what it sounds like, just for fun.

I would guess they are running off road H/X pipes with cat back. If I had it to do over again I would go with the H pipe. I lost low end torque with the X-pipe or at least it feels that way. Also, I never had to use the MIL eliminaters on my OR pipe ( lucky me ). The OR pipes make a HUGE difference in sound, they would probably be loud with the stock mufflers!
