failing O2's?
I took the back 2 cats off each side of the H pipe on my '96 GT leaving the front 1 one each side. I have noticed that the right pipe has more soot than the left, I asked my dealer (mistake, but I figured what the heck) about it and he claims that the reason they differ is due to the fact that I am killing the downstream sensors by removing the cats. Is there any truth in this?? Besides flow how much more efficient can the aftermarkets be than a single stock cat? I don't have the money for an aftermarket H pipe yet and figured this would do for now. The CE light is not on so they must be close to correct. Found an old posting on checking the sensors, going to do that this week.
Thanks, JR ------------------ |

The rear O2s are heat sensitive and without those other cats the exhaust will burn them up. What you oughta do is get rid of the other two cats and buy the MIL eliminators from Dallas Mustang for $60. Takes care of teh O2 situation and you get your off road H-pipe much cheaper.

Thanks 96GTS,
I will order the MIL eliminators. Haven't tripped the check engine light but mileage is slowly decreasing so I figure their going. Fortunately we do not have emissions around here so no worries with the sniffer test. Never sure to believe the dealer or not due to past experiences. |
