Slo-leen
Alright Guys.. I'm stumped on this one. My '96 Saleen is a Slo-leen. The car doesn't run right. This is what it does (and I'll try my best to explain it):
If I slam on the gas pedal, it doesn't feel like all the power is there. It seems like it is at 80% throttle but the extra 20% comes between 2500-3000 rpms. (there is No Nitrous). Now, if I ease into the gas pedal to full throttle, the car feels stronger and quicker. here is what I think: 1) Bad fuel filter. Time to get a new one. 2) Horrible acceleration response. 3) Bad clutch or bad drivetrain?? Help me, guys. Thanks ------------------ |

Which Saleen do you have?
Does it come with a blower? Does it still have the stock cylinder heads\intake? Has it run correctly before? I think you'd definately know if the clutch or drivetrain had a problem... How many miles do you have? The fuel filter is a DEFINATE possibility, I would change it out... When was the last time you changed your air filter? Do you have a K&N? If so, check the sensor in the Mass Air Meter. It may have some of that K&N oil on it. When was the last time it had a REAL tune up? New plugs? (make sure they are gapped correctly...) I'm not sure about your description. Does the car get going slowly after you step on it? Could it be the clutch slipping? How many miles on the car?

To answer your questions,
It's a 1996 S281 Saleen, #1 car. No supercharger. Just a regular 4.6L 2v. Mods: Bassini X-pipe, underdrive pulleys, Cold-air induction kit w/a K&N Air filter that I just 'filtercharged' 2 weeks ago. Miles: 78,000 Any problems before? It's been doing this ever since the intake manifold cracked on me and the new one was installed. Recent Tune-ups? No. I got the car when it had 56,000 miles on it. Check for any vacuum leaks around the intake and other components such as ome of the pollution control monitoring components. Also go ahead and check your plugs for wear\gapping...

Update:
I took the car in today to get a tune-up. The mechanic told me that the car should get new plugs, fuel filter and check the mass air meter (things my dad and I can do). However..... He mentioned that my O2 sensors aren't working properly, causing the car to 'hesitate' when accerating. Here's my question: First, I'm not the mechanic in the family so don't laugh too hard after seeing this question. I installed X-pipes in Nov. Now, when you take the cats off, I thought there are no O2 sensors. Is that right? We did install MIL eliminators but the check engine light is still on! Please advise. Thanks guys! |

The sensors go into small fittings in the exhaust system. The Mil eliminators plug in between the sensors (in the pipe)and the wiring harness to give a "normal" signal back to the computer....
