Question Code P1443

My girlfriend's '96 Mustang GT intermittently sets a P1443 code. I did a search here and found an old post about it most likely being a sticking purge control solenoid.

Is this something that is just gummed up with carbon and I can clean out with some carb cleaner spray or will the solenoid have to be replaced? Anyone have experience with this? Also, where is the soleniod located... on the charcoal canister?

Thanks for your help!

naw, dont bother cleaning it, you are just wasting your time, put you on a aonther sensor, just follow the vacuum line from the rear of the throttle body down, it is located just in front of your accumulator for the a/c. it uses a vacuum source and a voltage signal from the purge flow sensor, which is also in line, from the pcm, which commands the solenoid on and off. i see these all the time at the svt dealer where i work, i never paid for mine (hehe) since i work at the dealer, but i also swapped the purge flow sensor too.. i just got my ira check, so now i am gonna get that kit from dta racing, plus add a few more goodies, i have the hook up at my dealership, and they are a motorsport supplier as well, woooooohooooooooo!!!

Default p1443

I also have a 96 GT and I am getting the code p1443 periodically. OBDII scanner book says p1443 is Evaporative Emission Control System Control Valve but my Chilton says p1443 is the Idle Air Control Valve Anyone know which one is correct.
