Red face If ya can't find 'em grind 'em

I have a prob with my t-5, it won't stay in first. Rather it goes into first if you ram it in and stays. If you put it into 1st nice and easy it just pops out and grinds. REALLY embarassing! Is it time for a new tranny? or some stupid simple thing? any help is better than no help.
Thanx

Last spring I put new synchronizers and a new 2nd gear in my tranny. It really isn't that hard and not very expensive. The hardest thing to do is get the tranny out. You have to loosen the H-Pipe, or even take it completely off. I wouldn't write the thing off just yet. See if you can rebuild and save some cash.

Unhappy

I had the shop take a look, it wasn't good. I need synchros for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!!! They said about 300.00cdn per gear!!I can pick up a rebuilt t5 for 650.00cdn. So there's no guessing at what I will do. I did have a second opinion and it was worse, they wanted to replace my tranny on the spot for 1850.00cdn. No thanx. BTW, I just bought the car a week ago for 1500cdn so I think the cost of a tranny is waranted for the car.

i just rebuilt my t-5 also but i did not need synchs, you can get a pretty good price for a rebuild kit from D&D performance. There is a difference between a complete rebuild kit and a synchro rebuild kit, the first one is $149 US, and the second (just synch rebuild) is only $89 US. I dont know for sure what that would equate to in canadian but i would think it would be cheaper than 300 per gear!!!!
