1999 VIN Engine Code

I have a 1999 GT. The engine code on the VIN (8th diget) is "X." From my reseach, I know that "X" is the 4.6 SOHC dsignation for 2000 GT's, not 1999s. My car was made in 5/99. Do I have a 2000 engine, or is it just coded as one?

I had an X code on my '98 GT too.
