"Automatic" Burn-Out?
Greetings,
I own a Mustang GT Convertible. It's an automatic. (In city, too much traffic) It is completly stock. No mods what so ever. I would like to know, with an automatic, and no mods, there a way to "smoke" the tires from a stop? I know people can do it with a stick, but I am yet unable to do it. Would I have to buy different gears for it? Is there a way to lower the tourqe? Thanks in advance for any advice! Tom |

Unless they are really sticky tires you should be able to by just hammering it from a stop.
You can also press on the brake pedal with the left foot and give it some gas up to about just before the car starts to move. Then hammer it and let off the brakes. If you want to sit still and spin 'em just hold down the brake pedal and give it throttle to get the tires spinning. If your brakes are still pretty good, like on my Lightning, you have to let off the brake pedal a little (not having it all the way down), and give it gas to spin the tires while holding the car in place with the brakes. Easy to do and it will get you on your way to a new set of tires even faster .

I actually found it easier to burn the tires down in my AOD-equipped '90GT than my 5 speed '98 GT. It also had 3.73 gears, which will certainly help break the tires loose.
If you haven't already done a gearswap, it will be one of the most noticeably dramatic mods you'll ever do. Well worth it.

Get a line lock. "Powerbraking" is extremely hard on the 4R70W transmissions.
