anyone tried the b.a.r ported upper plenum ?
in the june issue of mm&ff there is an artical about ben alameda racing ported upper plenum for sohc 4.6's claiming 10 hp and almost 15lb ft of torque on a 01 gt any ideas of what the gains might be on a 96-98 gt? anyone tried this its a pretty cheap mod if u get the gains they are claiming

I did it and we cant really tell cause we have the horrible flowing heads. If we had the 99+ heads I would feel this mod but I just like working on cars so I did it for fun and it cant really hurt I guess.

Just port it youself. Only cost about 10 - 15 bucks. Very easy to do!!! You really can't screw it up.

People that have been putting these plenums on their cars and doing dyno testing are seeing more like a 3-5 hp gain. I believe supercharged cars are actually seeing a slight loss. I don't know what to believe when I read Mythical Mustangs & Fake Fords anymore. There is a huge thread on corral.net about it.

sorry my bad I'll give the correct info, they tested this mustang
'03 GT Deluxe Package Entire air intake intact as it came from the factory. BBK Long Tube Headers BBK Offroad X Pipe Magnaflow SS Catback This is what they got on the DYNO pull so these are facts no bs stock Intake ported Intake RWHP RWTQ RWHP RWTQ 1 249.7 287.2 252.0 287.7 2 250.5 287.8 253.1 289.1 3 251.6 289.3 254.3 290.4

not that im arguing this is a good or bad mod, but wouldnt there be more to port on a 96-98 thats been on the road longer than an '03 which *should* give more? just curious.

I've heard that the 96-98 upper plenums are not good candidates for porting because they are thinner and you can't remove enough material. This came to light when B.A.R stopped accepting cores because they said some of the ones that they were receiving were unusable for porting.
