drove 4.6 01 GT not impressed
drove an 01 4.6 GT convt and was not impressed
with the pwr. lag lag lag was the story. this car has 34k on it - was it beat up? the pwr did not come on hard . my 95 5.0 5spd pulls much harder and the exhaust note on this 01- ugly and ratty. Don't get me wrong I worship the body style on the 01, but I hope the 5spd pulls more - I haven't driven one of those yet.

I drove a 99 GT 5 speed some time ago. I found very little difference between it and my 95 GT (with only cat back and K&N at the time). I could definately not tell it had 260HP to my 225. But I'm sure if I made some runs down the track the numbers would show themselves.

So what your're saying is that unless I push past 70 , then I

No, just that when I test drove a 99 GT I didn't notice any real difference. However if I was at the track the 99 GT probably would have run a better time. The one thing that I did notice is that my 5.0 had more down low torque, (which I like)
When I drove a 99 GT I was definately not "Wow this car is way faster then mine", but with 260HP to 225 HP, and roughly equal weights, technically the 99 GT should be faster. |

i had a 85 stang that i converted to a 89 lx look alike. Had aftermarket heads (vic jrs) edelbrock performer rpm intake edelbrock 750 cfm carb. headman long tube, hpipe (b/c in 85 it was a single pipe) flowmasters frpp 4.10's in a 8.8 rear 5spd. Anyway made tons of torque best time run 14.3 test drove 01 GT auto, at first impression my felt much faster b/c of the instant torque on the 5.0. Needless to say i needed a realiable car and took advantage of the 0.0% financing. End result stock trim with the 01 14.05 best run with auto. The difference in the power band messes with how fast the car feels.
As for the exhaust that was the first thing i ditched. |

I know that Manuals are a lot more fun to drive and what not, but I have constantly heard that Big scene drag racers use automatics in their sub 9 second drag cars? Is this true? Therefore is an AT better for drag?

Hmmm...I know my car is modded somewhat, but my 2000 GT lacks no bottom end what so ever. Its a 5spd, with stock gearing, and stock suspension, but I tell you what, there's no bog at all. Its down right torquey.
No offense to anyone here with a 99+ Auto, but with the auto's you dont quite get the feeling that you do with the 5 spd cars. Proof isnt in the "Feeling" thats gotten, proof is in the time slips, and the tail lights you either show people, or they show you. From all the Auto 99+ GT's I've raced, they seem to start straining around 50-60 MPH. If "Feeling" was an accurate portrayl of a cars speed, then my old 64 1/2 would be able to smoke FireHawks.

Trust me, pit a 99+ against your 5.0, you will be in a world of hurt.

Yeah I think it's been proven the SOTP (seat of the pants)evaluation is suspect at best.
The 4.6 is a different beast to say the least. |

So I take it you people are of the opinion that 99+ 4.6 liter stangs all run low 14's stock. From what I have seen the average driver runs a 14.4....
87-88 5 speed, speed density notch back....I have seen one run a 14.1 stock @3000ft. I ran a 14.59 @3000ft last year with a untouched stock engine in my vert...convert my time to sealevel and its about a 14.10. I am not knocking the 4.6L stangs but lets not under estimate the fox body boys. Anyways how many stock fox bodies actually race at the track? Dont start with the ricer talk just cause a "couple" of guys have run 13's at a sealevel track doesnt mean you all can, and I know for a fact that most of you dont. How many of you have ever even been to the track and did you run 13's ? I would love to go to a sealevel track and race some of these 13 sec 4.6L stangs it would be cool as hell just to see that I respect the 99+ 4.6 and love to race them, people hate losing to verts. The modular cobras and LS1's spank my @ss all day but soon that to will change. Later,

I am glad that you gave us some props. because i was gonna tell you to come out east and i would show you the smack down that a modular motor will lay on a 5.0. no flame intended. heck, i want a 5.0 to play with. i figure that a 351 could do a little something.

You have a 5.4 liter modular stang with 400RWHP.....I think I read that somewhere. To race you I would put on some slicks, spray a 150 shot and strip my car down to the frame Bring it on baby!!!! Later,

lemme think
i would say that... to race you, i would wake up. change my tires. fill my bottle play with my speed pro. go to the bank, take out 1000 bucks. and run you. any time. i will match your 150 shot. and, actually double it....hehehe... and lets say the 400. hmmm... i could get a little more than that outta my car. that is on motor, just what i play with all the time. on my street driving program. i'll run you though. where at? and what kinda money are we talking?it will be friendly of course. but i gotta pay for gas you know? 83# injectors eat it up quick.
