What Next?
I was going to get a new intake manifold for my car, but after finding out it is 1400, i cant. Any suggestions on what I should do next for my car ( no nitrous) & I only have about $400-500 to spend. ( so far I have bbk offroad h-pipe, flowmasters, & short throw shifter) THANKS.

NO QUESTION!!
With that level of mods, and that much $, get GEARS!! Since you have a 5speed, get some 3.73's.

I already have 3.27's. If i had 2.73's like most mustangs i would but i only think i would gain about .2 seconds in quarter mile. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks

well you can go ahead and make it a full blown exhaust..get a pair of shorty headers....i honestly cant say i found a huge difference in moving up from 327 to 373 gear ratio. i should have gone wih 410 ....but that can just b to the fact that i own a automatic stang.............. you say no nitrous so illsay you should probably go with the underdrive pullies, chepest horsepower for your buck....just suggestions.

I see you say no ... NOS but are you going to get a S/C system?
The gears is definately my first recommendation then the full exhaust. UD pulleys would be good too along with a T/A if you truly stay N/A. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. Still not sure what to get though, still disappointed about intake being 1400 compared to 500 for a 5.0..oh well, live and learn

like bill said......every power adder counts, every tenth counts. wether you put the headers, pullies, or what ever youd like... man when i got started on my car my best time was 15.80s now im in the low 13s....every little thing that drops a tenth is good.. well, i cheated and went with dry nos...but its not really called cheating its more like run what you can run....i just swapped over to 2000 pi cast heads and cams, and i got a great deal on a vortech s trim ... so i will have some new times soon. but now i am officially broke and in debt. no more mods for me till about ten months. well let us know what you end up modifying.

For that amount of money I would agree with pulleys and timing adjuster.

If I had a 96-98GT, I would save as much as I could and get 99-01GT heads from a scrap yard. I hear people that have done this are making excellent power because of the better flow of the newer heads but also because of the higher compression ratio.
If you have 4-500, wait a little longer and save to get those heads used. I think you might be able to do the whole thing for under a 1000 if you do the install yourself or know someone who could help. Good luck!

Nothing to be disappointed about. An aftermarket intake wouldn't do jack anyway because the heads are so bad. So even if there was one for $500, it would be worthless. 96SNAKE is right on, save for the headswap. With $500, you already have half the money for the parts. The headswap is the way I am going, because all the cheap bolt on's in the world won't give me the peformance gain that the new heads will. I'll worry about gears, driveshaft and so on after I am making 280hp+. But other then that, install a set of gears. If you think you might go witha headswap later on, go with 4:10's. If you think you might go SC, stick to 3:73's.
