buying an 02GT..got a questions.
Hi,
I'M about to buy an 02 Mustang GT in the next 2 months(Now driving a Cavalier Z24) First mod I want to do is exhaust. Dont want to spend lots of money so i'll keep stock H and everything and only change the mufflers to Flowmasters 40series. How do you install only the mufflers on the stock pipes, is it only a matter of cutting out the 2 stock mufflers and replacing them with the Flowmasters? Will I get an increase in sound over stock ones ? how much increase. I want loud. Any other starting mods I should look into ?(gears, shifter etc..) ?? Thanks for all your help. |

You want loud? Go with Spin Tech and get rid of the flowmasters. I have Spin Techs and they are the loudest mufflers I have ever heard. Get a H-Pipe or X-Pipe. That will make a huge difference in sound. Gears, go with either 3.55's or 3.73's. Grab a chrome cold air induction with a K&N air filter. Try those and see how loud it gets.

My 95 got WAY louder once I changed to an off-road H-pipe. My cat-back didn't really make the car that loud at all.
As far as first things to change, go with gears either 3.73's or 4.10's. I wouldn't bother with 3.55's. I don't think you'd even notice the change from 3.27's. 3.73's will be a good all round gear, but these 4.6L SOHC engines like to rev, so 4.10's are good performance gears. Get a shifter and change out the stock X-H pipe. The stock pipe really sucks. Your car will sound better and you'll get more performance. Mufflers don't do jack for performance. You might also consider pulleys and a timing adjuster. |
