3.73 gears
Will these gears hurt my top end or pretty much spread out the power band thru the revs? I know that the 4.6 Has alot of it's power at the higher revs. Just curious. I've been told these are the best gears for a 5-speed that's a daily driver/track participant. Thanks a lot.

I've tried both 3.55 and 3.73's in my Cobra. I think they are both good choices. I prefer
the 3.73's. They won't hurt your top end at all. The way a stock Mustang is geared you would 600+hp to pull 5th gear to redline. You can calculate the change in RPM at various speeds in 5th gear with 3.55,3.73 and 4.10's and then decide what you think is best for your application. dan ------------------ '96 Cobra, Steeda G-Trac Stage III Suspension, K&N Filter,77mmPro-M,FMS Ceramic Coated Headers,Bassini-X Pipe, FMS Aluminum driveshaft, FMS 3.73's, Cobra R's , Firestone SZ-50 275-40x17's, Powerslot Rotors, Preformance Friction Z rated pads, Steeda Tir-Ax, Schroth Restraints, Kuhmo Victoracers(for the track). |

I love my 4.10s for my Cobra. Never topped it out, but in theory at least, the 4.10s should increase it by about 10 mph.
For a GT, 3.73s seem to be the gear ratio of choice. The GTs aren't quite as rev happy as the Cobras. ------------------ '97 Cobra, K&N, Flowmaster, subframes, 4.10 gears, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, Steeda G-Trac 3, Cobra R wheels w/ Goodyear F1s My Ride |

Sean Hyland from SHM is the leader in 4.6 parts these days, though FRP is catching up. I guess he has tested a lo tof 4.6 engines and said 3:73's are optimal for the SOHC and 4:10's are optimal for the DOHC. I have 4:10's in right now and am considering going to 4:30's before the spring because it is still a little sluggish to about 2000 rpm.
