Post Need an estimate...

While at one of my clients this morning I overheard a gentleman speaking with the receptionist about how he has got to sell his Mustang so that he can make more room in his garage. Being curious, I approached him about it. Details are as follows:

- 1968 Mustang - California Special
- 289 cu. in. engine
- 31,000 original miles
- GTO decals
- Automatic, on the floor shift
- A/C
- Emerald Green paint
- Side air scoops
- No rust, a few minor dings/scratchs
- Has been garaged for the last 15 years and driven about 100-150 miles each year.

Now, I don't know much about classic Mustangs but I thought that someone here (Rev, 69fastback, et al.) could maybe help me with a rough estimate of its worth?

The guy that is selling it is hoping for at least $10,000 out of it, but he really has no idea what it's worth. I told him I would try to get some sort of approximate estimate for him - just so he doesn't get taken on the sale.

He also mentioned something about Cougar style tail-lights? To be honest with you, I have no idea what this Mustang style even looks like?

Any $$$ guesses?

Thanks in advance for the help!

With the limited information you were able to provide I tried checking it out on here by doing a search for 68 california special mustang. The average price seems to be around $14k-$15k for a top of the line car. Depending on the actual shape of your friends car it could be somewhat less.

With that in mind, if the car is as solid as it sounds it very well could fetch the $10k he was wanting.

That is just an educated guess on my part and some of these other classic guys might be able to help you out more.

Interior work includes custom paneling, custom dash dress-up(I refuse to cut anything out of the original), Rewiring most of the electronics, Porsche 911 seats installed soon, and Stroker kit when I get to Texas. November of 2001 I will go back to Dallas.

I'm betting it's worth more like $14,000-15,000 if it's really in pristine condition with only 31,000 miles. Of course, that means finding some one who wants one.

Auction will probably bring that or more for a good one, but that of course means a fee which must be subtracted from the selling price.

I'm really just talking off the top of my head here. An appraisal might be worth considering from a real expert (extra cost) before setting the price.
