97 Snake: 3.55's or 3.73's?
I have a friend with a 97 cobra who is planning on changing his gears to 3.55's. I told him that if he wants some real power he should go with 3.73's. He has no plans on supercharging just bolt ons. Since he won't take my word for it maybe you Cobra owners can help.

Your friend needs to drive a Cobra with gears. 3.55s are a waste of money. I have 4.10s and with other bolt ons, actually get better milage then I did before. A lot of people will even suggest going higher. 4.30s min.
Cobras like gears, and are a lot more fun to drive with big gears. Don't let your friend go half-assed! |

with like a 7000rpm limit the cobras can run the stepper gears without a problem at all. he should get at least 410's, if he likes going to the strip alot he should consider 430's.jmho.

4.10's minimum!
I had them, then went to 4.56's, which I like a lot. 4.30's would be a nice medium. Before you say yes I know I have a GT not a Cobra. Go with the 4.30's or 4.56's if he is staying NA.

I have 3.73's in my car now and they don't get the car in it's power band quick enough. I would tell your friend to go with a set of 4.30's, especially since he is staying N/A.
That's what i've learned since I had the 3.73 put in, and that is why i'am puting in 4.30's in ASAP. Will ------------------ 98Cobra off road x-pipe, flowmasters, 3.73 rear end(4.30's soon),Mac Cold Air,Ripper Shifter, Nitto Drag Radials |

I have 3.73s and love them. Your friend sounds pretty concerned about going low, but tell him to at least go with the 3.73s. He will not be sorry. 3.55s would be a waste of money.

All my Cobra friends say 4:10s or higher. 3:55s would be a waste even on a GT. I think he needs to consider how he plans to primarily use the car...drag racing or auto-x/road racing. Lower gears (4:10) for auto-x, higher for drag racing.

Hey Thanks for the replies. I'll let my friend know to get atleast 4.10's or 4.30's if he's really serious. Once again, Thanks.
