Post $2000 for 99 Cobra

Hello All Stang's Owners,
I'm a NEWBIE and I have 2 Grant to spend on my 99 Cobra performance mods. What do you recommend to do first at 2 Grant? My target on my Cobra is Mid 11s for a quarter mile in the future, therefore I don't wanna waste money on mods (parts) that won't use to reach the target later on. Simply The Best Bang for the Bucks.
Any input...appreciatte it
Plus, I need some information about the Special Performance Shop for doing the right job on The Mustang near my area (Newark, DE).
I'm willing to travel within 100 miles.
Thank you all in advance.

Eddy

Then you should go over to the Corral and ask for Ron99Cobra. He's running high 11's NA.

Something you may want to specify is if you want to run those times NA or with a power adder and if a power adder which one.

Do I really need that power adder to get mid 11s?

The first thing I would get would be either a 4:10 to 4:56 gear. A gear set should be about $500 installed. Then I would get exhaust. Most likely a Bassani x-pipe and some sort of cat-back system. The x-pipe I think is around $450 and the cat-back will probably be about $350-450 depending on what kind you get. Of course you will need slicks or drag radials to use all the power. I would also recommend pulleys, a K&N and maybe some sort of chip like a Superchip. This should get you well into the 12's but I don't think it would be enough to get into the 11's. If you go with a power adder the only one that would fit into your budget would be nitrous. Personally, I'm not a big fan of it because if you don't tune the car right...bye-bye motor. However, with a nitrous kit I know you would be well into the 11's. For a 4.6l, I think they run around $500 and up.
Just my $.02

One other thing, has your car had the recall "fix" for the engine?

Don't worry Marty, it was only the 99 Cobra's. Turns out they got the wrong exhaust and had screwed up intakes from the factory. All 99 cobra's were recalled and the "fix" consisted of a new exhaust and the intakes were extrude honed. Supposedly there was excess casting material inside the intakes that messed up flow REAL bad. The Cobra was supposed to have 320 HP but I have heard of many that had as much as 20-30 less because of this. I think there is supposed to be a decal under the hood somewhere or maybe the door sill showing the recall has been performed. One other thing about the new cobra's is the drive shafts have a tendency to snap with slicks on them. I would check with the guy mentioned earlier that is running 11's to see what his experiences are.
Sorry I keep posting novels

Thanks cvenom96. My car has been fixed from the performance recall.
I'm not a nitrous fan either.
Hmmm...still thinking...

Cool

Don't mess with an off the shelf chip like Superchips. Put that Cobra on a Dyno and get a chip burned for it after you do some mods. This way the chip is set up for your specific car and mods. It'll make a big difference. Get your Bassani exhaust, K&N filter, underdrive pullies, at least 4.10 gears but alot of guys recommend 4.30s, subframe connectors, and either drag radials or slicks. You could do all of that stuff yourself except for the gear install and the dyno/chip. After you get the mods on go to a place and get the Cobra run on the dyno and get a custom chip burned for it. I'd bet low 12s to high 11s for your car. If not mid 11s.

You know you have a really nice car. And so does everyone else. I would protect your baby and get yourself a nice car alarm. If not some random guy might get a a cobra with 2 grand in mods. My .02

Cool

Thank you everyone...
Think to put the Bassani X, Dynomax Ultraflo SS or Magnaflow, Steeda Pullies, 4.10 gears, K&N, and subframe connectors. Plus Chip...
Then Slick tires...

Done? Let's see...
