T5 Tranny With Over=drive ?
Hi Everyone
I getting my '66 Mustang Convertible hopefully this Sat.23rd. Its got a 3 speed manual tranny in it. And a V8 ~ 289cid. I'm pretty new at performance and cars in general. So please be patient with me please Now the questions: I've read some stuff on T5 tranny's with over-drive but don't quit understand it. I would love to hae that tranny. IS IT THE BEST FOR MY CAR JUST HOW DOES THE OVER-DRIVE WORK Roughly how much $ would a new T5 cost me Or would I be better off buying a rebuilt one Sorry for all the questions guys/gals but how on earth am I going to learn from you guys/gals if I don't ask THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS |

Re: T5 Tranny With Over=drive ?
t-5 tranny's umm some love them and some really hate them. The overdrive question is easy to answer-- it is a 5-speed so the first 4 gears pull and the 5th will help out gas milage on the freeway. The overdrive drops your rpm's when cruzin but when you step on the gas in 5th it will pick up very slowly on some cars-- the cars that will fly when u step on it in 5th have lots of power ie. cobra's or anthing that is basically s/c or turboed! I would say go with a t-56 tranny it is a 6- speed and it will run u 2200 new and u can find them used for about 1500. have fun and power is addictive!

Thanks so much for your imput. However, I really don't want to go for that much $ $ $ for a t-56 (6 speed) Hey don't get me wrong MAN it would really be wide to go for it. But I'm not really into that much speed. I just want some kick. Besides I still have to go for a new clutch for the t-5. I figure it this way. T-5 Tranny. New Clutch. Dual Exhaust. Hurst Shifter. I believe I'd be good to go with that set-up. WHAT DO YOU THINK ? ? ? ' YOU MET THE NICEST PEOPLE ON MUSTANG MESSAGE BOARD |
