Hey everyone, was looking into getting some 4.10's for christmas and ive been looking around on the net for prices. The average price ive found is about $200 bux. I dont think thats too bad, but am i gonna need other parts? Like a case, or new speedo or anything along thoes lines? Thanks for the imput.

Ya...that's just the start. I only had to pay $10 for the speedo gear, but I'm pretty sure the newer stangs need electronic speedo calibrators. Summit had them for $100 las time I looked at them. Installation is where it's going to get you. Pay the money and have it done right. If there are any gaps or a bad install then you will get a winding noise from your rearend. I think I payed around $250 for my install, but I found my gears for $170. I'll look later for the place I found them and post it back up here. It was by far the best deal I found. BTW, I have FRPP 3.73's.

go here for gears they are www.gefracing.com
and with a 99+ you will need a speed cal(on a 5 speed) or a chip(for both) if you have a 5 speed I would go with a speed cal

you will need
gears 139+
speed cal/chip 99+
install kit 80+
and lube/friction modi. 15+
total in parts around 333+ then add labor

wow, you must be psychic or something. That's where I bought my gears from. Check around before buying the install kit, some places my include that in the labor, save you a step...that's what mine did. With the speedo gear your speedometer will be off. Mine reads close to 90 when I'm running 80. So if you run a lot of interstate miles (like me), you're gonna rack up false miles on your odometer. If you plan on selling, you might want to get the electronic one so you'll save some miles.

Thanks everyone, maybe ill stay away from the gear ratio for awhile. I didnt think it was that involved. Maybe ill go with a bolt on or something for the exterior.

I was planning on dropping 4.10s in this winter. It is my understanding that you can correct the speedometer with a new chip. Seems like that's the best way to go. Chips run around $300 and you can save the extra $100 to buy the separate speedo calibration. The entire setup costs more, but you get a chip. Is this right?
