Sensor question??
Is there any sensor responsible for making fuel and timing changes based on outside air temp other than the MAF?
I have been chasing a problem for awhile and wonder if it is my computer or a sensor but there are no codes.. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) |

The IAT (Intake Air Tempature) sensor. Its just up stream from the MAF. Should have a 5.0V input. It acts like a variable resistor. Should read about 27.3K @ 68 degrees and 212 @ 2.0K. That is, the resistance should be decreasing as the tempatures is raising.

97snake,
Is that the little connector immediately upstream heading in the t-body airflow direction? It's in the rubber/plastic intake hose right? Thanks! Lance |

King Snake,
My car has this thing the last few months where it runs terrific for a few days and on others, it seems like it would have rather stayed in the garage. It always seems to run better during this period when there are warmer ambient temps and this just isn't the way the car ran before. I think the IAT sensor is the cause or my computer. -I replaced the sensor yesterday and it idles pretty strong but with the bad weather lately I haven't been able to road test it. |

I don't think that your computer is the problem. Automotive computers are (usually) like a light bulb, either work or they don't. If you put a chip in there that's different software, so my light bulb analogy doesn't apply for that.
On the other hand, a damaged sensor will yeild varying results while still allowing your engine to actually run. Obviously, the computer only knows what the sensors are telling it... |

Hi, I am the idle problem guy! I saw your post and had some similar thoughts about air temp. I live in Florida and it is usually warm. The last few days have been cold(er) and my idle worked the best it has since I got it, but only in the morning. In the afternoon the temp rose and the idle problem was back. I wonder if this could be a sign of my IAT being messed up???
