Unhappy Advice please

I frequently have problems shifting into second gear when i'm in a power situation. what could it be??it almost feels like the "gate" isn't opening up to let me shift into the gear

I have been having a similar problem in my 96 cobra. It has been progressivly getting worse in these past 10,000 miles. Personally I think the T-45 is a piece o crap. Problem started at 19,000 miles, and now that I have 29,000 miles it is pretty bad. Maybe Ford will initiate a recall, seems like alot of people have been blowing synchros lately...

Yeah the syncros in the T45 are a POS. I've had a lot better luck with mine granny shifting it till the engine gets warm, then shifting normally or hard. As long as I granny it till its warm it seems okay.

Thanks a bunch, I keep hearing that it's most likely my syncros. Can i buy a "beefy" syncros that won't break, or do i have to buy another part that will soon break?

It is a good idea to take it really easy on your car until it warms up, not just for the tranny but also the engine. When you can no longer feel the bump at 3250 when the IMRCs do thier thing under light acceleration you are almost there!

Thumbs up

It won't happen... but I agree there should be a recall from Ford. Mine shifts fine when the car is warmed up but any other time it will always grind going in to second. It sucks because it always happens when I'm not paying attention going to work in the mornings. I'll get on it kind of heavy from a stoplight and then tear second apart and I'm sure everyone thinks I can't drive my car.

It's interesting to see this topic because I have been having this exact problem in an essentially brand new car. I bought my 2000 GT in December and starting in about Feb. second started acting up. I am sure you can feel my pain when I line up with an F-body at a stoplight and totally chunk second gear only to watch them blow my doors off....
