Post Are 3.73 gears worth it

I have been told buy alot of people that have changed their mustangs gears that it has not been worth it. They say it was a waste of money and any gave hardly any extra power.

Actually they give no power. Put it on a dyno and you may even loss a couple. But I have never heard of anyone who put 3.73s or 4.10s in a modular mustang and regretted it.

I sure as heck don't.

Cool

I love my 3.73s. I still avg 22 mpg/tank of gas and it does help get ya going quicker. Better in town mpg too. You can't install gears alone and expect a world of difference, but they do help and with other mods it's sure as heck faster than crap 2.73s. There is alot of difference between 2.73s and 3.73s. I had 3.55s in before the 3.73s and don't notice too much difference but there is alittle even at that between the two. They are a must. Trust me and the others that WILL agree with me. $400 well spent on my stang. Man, those gears help the stang get the power out so much better than the stock POS gears.

When I bought my 98 GT, it already had 3.73's (otherwise stock) in it, so I couldn't really compare it to stock at first.

Then I drove a friend's 98 GT with stock gears, and after that, it felt like his had quite a bit less get-up-and-go. Seemed like his was in need of a bad tune without the gears, either that or it seemed like I had more mods than him. Gears are a really good mod, if you're talking bang for the buck. You can really feel the "seat of the pants" difference after you put them in.

I would recommend them. I've got gears switched out of all of my rides. This current car, I've gone through three different gear sets. 4:30's in there now and I like them, although not the best for city drivin'. 4:10's are good also.

Uhhh, yeah, they're worth it. I had 3:55s in my '88 LX 5.0 and I've got 3:73s in my '96 Cobra. Very noticeable difference in both cases. Like the other fellow said, they obviously don't give you more power, but they bring your engine up into the horsepower RPM range quicker. If you're a drag racer (I'm not), you'll shave about 3 tenths off your 1/4 time with just gears. The best part is the "snappiness" it gives you on the street. Downshift to pass? Forget about it....just mash the pedal!
