Cool Best Tire size

I seriously need new tires and didn't know what to go with. My stock 96GT calls for the 225/55 16's - is that the best tire size or does anybody recommend anything else? I really need good all weather tires (even though it's still a sled in the snow) and I don't really need anything Z rated. Eventually I will upgrade to 17 inch rims but right now I just really need new tires. Thanks in advance for any input.

Try some 235/50-16's or 235/45-16's. They're a little bigger and look real cool. The best all weather tire IMHO, is the Michelin Pilot XGT V4/Z4, excellent all around tire..

Thumbs up

Thanks Cravnpup,
Hey, how do those two alternate tire sizes compare to the stock size? Bigger how? I know how the numbers break down I think, but it still confuses me a bit. Is the 235 wider or taller than 225? The "45" & "50" numbers are the percentage of something but I can't remember how it relates. Can sometime help me visualize how these compare to my stock size and whether or not they'll screw up my speedo?

Thanks again guys,

Stefan

Cool

You can put up to a 245 tire on those 16s. 55, 50, 45 are the distance (I think in mm, not sure about this though) from the edge of the wheel rim to the tread. 45 being the shortest and 55 the tallest of the three numbers. I went back with the 225/55s on my car but I've also seen the 245s on the 16s as well and they looked really good with the wider stance. The 245 is the width of the tire (across the tread I think again in mm). 245 being a wider tire than a 225. A shorter can mess up the speedo a little but I don't think it'll be a drastic difference. Maybe a few mph. I'm assuming you have the stock Mustang GT 16 inch 5-spoke wheels? I have Dayton Daytona ZR tires and they have worked very well rain/snow/dry.

Thanks for clearing me up. I think a little wider stance would be cool. I guess i'll just have to see what I can afford.
