Angry alternator

ok, im driving down the road and when i get my RPM's to around 2k or higher my lights dim and my batter light comes on, but when idling and keeping the rpm under 1700 or so everything is fine. so i get home pop my hood and one point on the belt has a decent tare in it.It's kinda frayed a little but look like it would be ok to drive to go get the belt. I also replaced the alternator a while back and still have a waranty on it. do you think the tare could make the belt loose and cause the alternator problem or show i get a new belt a swap the alternator to, i guess i could try the belt first (duh) thanks for any input

It sounds like the alternator locked up. This happened recently on my Chevy and it shredded the belt at one location.

the alternator still spins, though it feels very tight. i just replaced the belt, had a decent size split in it, put the new belt on, fired it up, same damn thing. all the idler and tention pullies spin freely. So the only thing left is to replace the alternator right?

With the belt off it should spin freely by hand. If it tight there probably is a bearing problem. If it's still under warranty take it in and let them test it ( maybe it'll burn their belt).

ok
got the alternator on and made sure the battery was ok, the screw for the wedge piece was completly and snaped in half, so i ghetto assed it and screwed and hole right next to it and so far it is ok, yeah i know i should have done it differently. but now everything is back together i fire it up and a check engine light came on and my a/c wont work. turns out the belt wasn't on the power steering pulley completly. so now i have the battery unpluged so hopefully after i plug it back in it will be ok.

This is deffinetly not my god damn day
