Default 4.6 cams

Hey guys,

Just wanted to know if there are any good cams for my 2000gt and what the performance gains would be.

Also, what the cist and installation costs would be. And if anyone could suggest an installation place here in NY or nearby it would be very helpful.

I know that SHM has a package any others places that anyone knows about?

Thanks

Gerry

P.s. - what other parts should i get if replacing the cams to improve performance?

Besides SHM there is Comp Cams, Mod Max, and a few others. All are about 500 bucks for a set of new cams. Installation varies but you can expect $500 easy, some as much as $700. If you can get someone to help you put them in it's about 4-6 hours of work and not all that bad. My SHM 2730's made a world of difference on the top end , above 3K!

I got a set of Comp Cams. Easy to install, but then again, I had the whole engine out of the car, and it was a totally new block and everything.

The Comp Cams 102600 may say Noticable idle, but it lopes pretty damn good. Its a little misleading there description.

I have heard a lot of mixed info on comp cams I guess they had a bad run and people were having problems and having to use shims to get it set up right

how did yours go

Merc...

did they give you good power gain through out the whole rpm range and not just high rpms??

Thanks!

I want to cam mine but I'm looking at the 102200...
1600-5600rpm
268 274 @ .50

wonder if its about the same rough idle?

anyone know what the stock 2v cam specs are???

I did everything in one shot..The cams, the heads, the headers...everything at once. So I cant tell you indvidual gains. The car had gears, H-pipe, resistor, and K&N before the engine went Boom.

(I havent really romped on it all that much...it doesnt keep traction in the first two gears at all). It pulls and pulls and keeps pulling. Its hard to give you an operating range, although it does seem to be a little higher than what Comp said the cams operate at. Dont get me wrong, its along stronger all through the entire RPM range than it was stock.

I know the stock cam specs, but they slipped my mind at the moment...my head hurst so bad, got a killler head ache.

Its just a damn beast.

Wow.... 268/274 dur at .5 !! Thats probably Advertised Specs. It will lope good. Is that a 550 lift cam, or a 500 lift cam?

I read alot of good things about VT heads and cams.

I cant wait to put some boost on it.

Isn't .550 lift cutting things a little close to the pistons??
