Default The Shift Light

I'm dry so my 2001 GT/2003 Cobra conversion is now a beautiful looking replica on the outside with a 100,000 mile 2001 GT underneath, with a bunch of parts I don't have the right tools to install...until I get the money to start repowering the car and tuning it for different handling I wanna conserve the car's stock 5-speed tranny. I see a whole lot of 2003/2004 SVT Cobras' out there with shift lights on the tachometer and someone told me having it for a while might give me a better feel for where the car wants to shift since I only drive it about 100 miles per week. Do those things really act beneficially?
