Exclamation 5.0 Shifter....HELP!

I own a 97 Cobra with quite a few mods and I'm no mechanical genius but I consider myself pretty capable. But yesterday I went to bolt on my new 5.0 shifter and got everything off including the four plate bolts but it still won't come off. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to the T-45 tranny?

Hey bud, Greg from Pensacola. I put the Pro 5.0 in my '96 Cobra....took about 30 minutes...really easy. After you remove the four bolts holding the "boot plate" on, there are four more holding the shifter mechanism on. If you take those off and it still won't come off, just wiggle it back and forth to loosen the gasket material. Don't be afraid to apply some pressure to it. It should lift off without much trouble. Like you said, there isn't much to it. Good luck.

Cool

Hey, thanks a lot. I saw a rubber gasket and figured that through wear and tear it seeled pretty good. OK, I can put it back together in the morning in time to go to work!!! Thanks. By the way, what's the best aftermarket shifter all you other Cobra drivers are using? I heard Steeda's Tri Ax has it.

If you're a drag racer, the Steeda Tri-Ax is pretty good. I like to road race, and after having two Steeda Tri-Ax shifters in my car, I sent them back and bought a Pro 5.0, which is less notchy and better for heel-and-toe downshifting. I love it. Fortunately, the guys at Steeda didn't mind a bit, seeing as I've spent over $5,000 with them already!

Are you a member of the Bay Mustang Club in P.C.? Tina Easterwood is the President. Pretty good club. I was President of the Tallahassee club for two years.

No I'm not a member. I'm military and have been here four years. I've gone through a 90 LX, 95 Lightning, and my current car but never thought about a club. Actually I went to a show they sponsored last month but didn't think of looking into it. What benefits does a club have to offer?
