I also would love to know - Top speed numbers are really hard to find - I also dont know of any road-test numbers at all for a 2003 GT but would have to assume that they would be similar to the numbers below - I found the following:

1999 Ford Mustang GT
Manual Transmission
Obtained from Car & Driver - February, 1999 Issue
0-60: 5.5
1/4 Mile: 14.2

2001 Ford Mustang GT
Manual Transmission
Obtained from Motor Trend June, 2001 Issue
0-60: 5.4
1/4 Mile: 14

2002 Ford Mustang GT
Automatic Transmission
Obtained from Car & Driver November, 2002 Issue
0-60: 6.3 - **Note automatic tranny
1/4 Mile: 15.1

There is also an article I read in 5.0 Mustang & Superfords where they drag test an 02 stock GT - They took out the jack and spare tire, removed the entire air filter housing and intake silencer and iced the intake and mass air for an hour and pulled the following 1/4 mile times:

First run - 1/4 Mile: 13.96 @ 99.02 mph
Second run - 1/4 Mile: 13.72 @ 101.80 mph

Anyone else have any uselful info?

My friend told me the V-8 was only for top speed and the v-6 would do the same 0-60. Is that true?

Wow - I haven't laughed that hard in a long while.

Your buddy.....better start doing some research before he says things like that.

WRONG - The V6 mustang is slower in 0-60, 1/4 mile and Top end numbers.....

Good. I knew he was just defending his V-6 Stang.

Also what is better a supercharger or a turbocharger and approximatley how much horsepower do they add?

Yeah what's up with those people?I too know a few neanderthals who claim that the v6 and the v8 are the same car except the v6 uses less gas?And i can't argue with them because they have no idea what makes a car tick.Makes me mad that some people just don't understand.I know alot of v6s,and they really can't hang with a v8 in any way.The new ones though seem alittle better then the previous generation of v6s.

When ever my friend says that ridiculous comment about how is V-6 is the same as my V-8 except in top speed I just say hmm... Ok.... 260 Horsepower (Point to my car), 193 horsepower (Point to his car) ... then say .... Hmmm which should have better acceleration?

A V-6 Stang can be modified to perform at the levels of the V-8 but come on now - the V-6 Mustang is a rental car for pete's sake!!

No offense to our V-6 brethren....

Not sure about supercharging vs turbocharging....I am pretty sure that there are plenty of other threads about that in here somewhere....

LMFAO ROTF!!!

What if the v-6 was supercharged would it perform then like a v-8 or would it still need a little more work?

Adding a supercharger to a V-6 mustang and then comparing the performance of that car to a V-8 Stock GT?

Hmmm...Very interesting.....

I would think that might be a close race.....Depending on the system - supercharging can add anywhere from 80hp to over 200hp so I guess if your buddy invests enoug cash, he could kick your *** on the street. Assuming of course that you keep your V-8 GT stock....which is highly unlikely right?

First thing most people say is to get gears. From what i've heard it's best to get 3.73 for a manual,or 4.10 for an automatic for a daily driven car.

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=655

Then a speed calibrator if you want your speedometer to be exact after the gear install.

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=696

And the first thing i always get on a new car is a short throw shifter. Most people will recommend eather the pro5.0 or the steeda tri-ax.I chose the tri-ax shifter, and love it

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=696

Then you should get some underdrive pullys.I haven't put any in my car yet,but i will soon. Some say steeda is the best, and some say pretty much any will do.Here's the steeda ones

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=531

I would also think about the exhaust system.Since i do all the labor myself i didn't get any headers yet, since they're a biatch to put in.You can get eather off road x/h pipe,or x/h pipe with high flow mufflers.Since i live in florida and we don't have emissions testing i went for the mac off road x pipe, for most power gains, and a nice sound.

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=526

With off road x/h pipes you'll also need m.i.l. eliminators,to make the "Service Engine Soon" light that will go on after you put the off road x/h pipe on go off.

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=526

And a magnaflow cat back.I get ALOT of compliments on the sound, even from most z28 drivers, and you know they don't like mustangs.I got my magnaflow from ebay for like 280 bucks, but you can find it on jegt too.Look for this product number

642-15671

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...92&prmenbr=361

Most people will also say that a cold air intake is pretty much useless,so i'd say get a high flow k&n filter

http://secure.50resto.com/50restorat...ategory_ID=603

Then some will reccomend a throttle body,i don't know about that one,at least not with few mods only,so i really don't know which one to get since i haven't looked into them.Anyway make sure you check the right engine size when choosing a product,so you don't end up buying a cobra part and not knowing why it doesn't fit. Also those are like the most basic mods, after that you start getting alittle more hardcore. If i forgot something i hope someone else will jump in.And if i got something wrong i hope someone let's you know before you make a mistake. Hope that helps.

you should give me your car ... i wish my parents could afford to buy me a brand new mustang ... oh well. it also ticks me off when people with v6 mustangs brag about them (when they are stock). also, even worse, the 4cyl on the older ones. im all for someone taking care of their car and being proud of what they have, but when you have an older beater 4cyl and you going around telling everyone you drive a mustang, it just isnt the same. to me at least. Jaegermeister2k is right on the money as far as i know with the mod list, depending on the money you can and want to put into it. none of the mods he listed are very expensive and will help your car out. i have heard more than a few people tell me they didnt like their pro 5.0 shifter, but there has to be some people out there who like it too, or it wouldnt still be on the market. i have heard nothing but praise about the steeda tri-ax, and mines arriving in the mail tomorrow, so i can let you know for sure follow Jaegermeister2k's advice, and have safe fun with your car oh yeah, put your buddy in his place when you get your license

Jaegermeister2k is right on the money as far as mods go.I have an 01 convertible GT that has every single one of them. That pretty much summarizes what can be done to them as of now without a power adder.Ford replaced my engine at 24k miles and I considered cams and headers.Until I found out the price to hp ratio.I opted for the hypertech programmer rather than the calibrator. It really surprised me that I could feel a difference with the power programmer.I don't know if you have an automatic or not, but if you do, you can adjust shift points.I ,myself, have a 5-speed.You can adjust rev limiter, top speed, and fix your speedo after installing gears or different size rims or tires.Ity is more of a personal preference on the gears, I love my 4.10s.I still get around 23mpg on the hwy.If you have a basic knowledge of cars, you can install just about all of the parts, the gears I would take to a professional, and maybe the x-pipe if you don't have a lift.If you have any questions about putting any of it on your car, just ask.

Default Re: Top Speed Limiter

So back to the original post:

What is the 0-60 and top speed on a stock 2003 Mustang GT?

I know that the top speed is electronically limited and that this can be handled by a performance chip but what exactly is the top speed of a stock stang and how much would that increase by removing the top speed limiter?

Any information about this specifically would be greatly appreciated...

Hey guys, thanks all of you for all your very helpful information.

Also, to the guy that said I was lucky my parents bought me a brand new 2003 GT Convertible, well , we don't own it yet, we still owe like 20 grand on it and we pay 400 a month for it. I give my Dad half of that a month once I get my license and im 16. Im 15 and a half now.

And ya, back to the 1st question i'd like to know what the top speed is and how much faster if the limiter was removed.

I say the rev limiter is there for a reason, and i wouldn't touch it on a stock engine.
As for the top speed most websites say 140mph for a stock convertable.

140 is awsome...

I though it would do like only 125.
