Default 98 GT times?

I am new to the board and was wondering if anyone had 0-60 and 1/4 times for the 98 GT 5 sp?

Welcome.

Typically, they run around 15 flat in the 1/4. I'd guess 6.5, to 60 with good traction.

There are lots of things you can do to change that! Get some gears to start. People are very helpful around here and can help you put some fire in that Stangs belly!

Default some ideas

a stock 15 flat would be one pathetic driver unless the car is just a pos and has 272 gears, my car came stock with 327 i ran a 14.4 only mods then were k&n and steeda triax shifter, now ive got 373's which were well worth the money, ive also got an offroad hpipe and flowmaster catback which sounds great but i couldnt really tell a different, up front the only mod is a 80 mm c&l mass air kit,a slight noticable differance there, zex nitrous is on the way, with those mods i manage to hit a 14.13 @96 mph not bad for a 98, the heads are sad,im just slappin the bottle to it untill the rest of the motor gets worn out then in comes the new hehe. good luck with your car, stock 0-60 rating is 6.3

Have to disagree with you slow...

A bone stock 5 speed 98 GT with street tires driven by an average driver and not speed shifting is a 15.0 second car.

Throw in some drag radials, gears, and an experienced driver, and you're usually looking at mid-high 14s....

Case in point...
When the yellowjacket was bone stock and I didn't know what a "deep stage" or a 60 foot time was, the best run was a 15.3....

A lot has changed the past few years...
(Still waiting on that Tremec TKO by the way)

Post yeh

well yeh i agree an average driver not speed shifting probably would just run low 15s, i will admit that when i ran the 14.4 i dumped some tire pressure the spare and was running on about an eighth tank of gas shifting the $#!% out of it,the bag of ice probably didnt hurt either hehe, but great times are possible with not so great cars, all it takes is practice,i mean i have seen posts on here of mostly stock 99+ gts running 13.6s and 13.7s,hell there was even one in mm&ff runing close to those numbers stock, thats an example of either a great driver or some on who likes to bs,those cars only have 35 more horsepower stock than a 98 and about 10ft lbs of torque, last time i checked that amount of extra power wasnt worth 1.3 seconds or 13 tenths, however you wanna look at it....... just a thought

You didn't do 14.4 stock. Granted, a shifter and K@N are only worth 2-3 tenths together, but it's not box stock. Most run high around 15.

The 99+ has 260 hp, a 45 hp gain over the rated 215 for the 98.

A "mostly stock" 99+ may have 280 hp and should be able to run 13.6 or 7 with good driving. I think 65 hp should be good for over one second in the 1/4.

Actually the 96-97 GT was rated at 215 hp, the 98 GT was rated at 225... yeah, I know.... HUGE difference...

But as with any Mustang, just open up a parts catalogue and whip out your Visa.... Before you know it you won't care how much it had stock.... hehe

Default My Times

When I first got my car, I went to the track and did a base test on it. This was a used, 1998 GT Coupe w/ 4R70W auto. The only mods i had on the car then was H-Pipe, Chip, K&N, and March RamAir under the car. That night was very very damp, I'm talking mositure running off the glass damp, and I didn't hook worth a %$#$, i ran 15.01 best time, that's mostly stock with 3.08 and failing posi. After I got home, I was scraping rubber off the fenders for weeks, so I know that in dry weather and not spinning I would have been 14.9x times, at least. This was also my first time at the track in a stang, I am used to driving a full size truck with vette engine and driveline. I don't know what my car runs now, but I do know that I have beaten some of the local 99+ 5 speeds, with no probs. I have also added a lot more since then. http://216.90.30.5/steeda_gt_mustang.htm

Default new heads w nitrous

question for hammer... ive got a zex nitrous kit in route i probably wont run more than a 75 shot,my motor is still pretty fresh so i might go ahead and do the head swap also, will the nitrous be safe with new heads, considering compression and what not?ive got 50k on my car and its had mobile 1 synthetic it since day one, is motor still fresh or should i just wait and replace everything at the sametime instead of the swap?

I used to have the Zex, it's a clean little setup...
The answer to your question depends on whether you are going with the FRPP or 99-00 PI heads...

You should be fine with the Zex if you're going the FRPP route, but if you're going with the PI heads, compression could be an issue.

I would contact SD Wheeler about his head swap packge... he might have some compression ratios for you and alternatives if you want to put some boost on with the PI heads...
