Best exhaust?
I just ordered pullies and a strut tower brace from Steeda but I'm still trying to decide on a cat back.I dont want to get real loud but i still want to have a notticable difference. What do you all reccomend? I've also heard conflicting stories about the 99GT
stock exhaust, is it too restrictive or not? Should i go for the cat back or just mufflers and save the difference for a new X-pipe or gears? ------------------ 1999 GT AODE ,MAC cold air kit,ATS-III seq. turn signals |

I went with a full Mac exhaust(Pro Chamber Off-Road H-Pipe and True Fit Cat-Back) and am very pleased with it. The price is good. The sound is great. And the look is sharp. It was also very easy to install. A true fit, true bolt on. It sounds nice and throaty, but not annoying. I've only had it on for a week and have gotten a lot more envious looks than before. For instance, I pulled up to a stop light yesterday and there was a little Escort ZX2 in the turn lane next to me with four guys in it. The front passenger rolled down his window to hear it even better. I think he left a puddle of drool on the road where he was hanging out the window. When I pulled away, I jumped on it a little bit, and I could hear them ooing and awing behind me. There was also a noticeable difference in HP.
I would definitely go with a new X or H-pipe and gears(4.10's) for now. And get the cat back later. I personally think this would give you the best bang for your buck, increasing your performance and sound. I think you'd be very pleased with this combo. Just my opinion though. I am getting my BBK off road H-pipe and MAC cat-back put on today. I will return and let you know how it sounds. It will be loud with the off road H though. If you don't want it to be that loud get the X or H-pipe w/cats.

Dude, the MAC's sound totally wicked! I love the sound from them. They sound sort of like 2 chamber flowmasters but a little deeper tone. Loud as He11 too.

Go with a x-pipe with cats. We have 6 catalytic converters on our cars. You will also get a better exhaust sound. No need for a cat-back as performance gains are minimal. Steeda came out with a x-pipe with cats for our cars but I'm going to go with a Bassani X.

I have a 1999 Mustang GT and am contemplating on which exhaust system I should get. What sounds/performs better the Borla Exhaust or Flowmaster? The Borla exhaust costs almost $300 dollars more than the flowmaster but is stainless steel. Ive heard that flowmaster sounds better though. Does anyone have any preferences on which performs better or sounds better?

I think unless you want bigger then the 2 1/4" pipe just go with mufflers, and get a good x-pipe. ------------------ Black 99 GT 3.73 gears Mac power chamber 2 chamber Flows Mac cold air induction steeda tri-ax Nitto drag radials 13.62 @ 109 (using a G-tech pro) |
