Default Need Mach1 Modification Advice, Please!

Just purchased '03 Mach 1, 5 speed. Would like lower gears, considering 410's. What would the rpm's be at 70 mph.

Plus considering shifter, Pro 50 unless can find something better. Should I leave engine stock? I think I can get into high 12's with gears and tires. What do you think??

i dont know about 12's - what do they run stock? ...13.9-14.0? ..thats my guess anyways

with gears and tires you will run nice 13's

...i do think they make a supercharger for a mach 1 now

Your RPM's@70 = your present RPM's@70 X 410/355. And that's about right for the et as mentioned. I often run only about 13.50 et depending on track/atmospheric conditions. When I ran against an 03 Mach I, the only reason I beat him was because he had a bad RT. Otherwise, I think we would have been near even. Got him by about 3 car lengths in the 1/4 mile. He was what we call "asleep at the wheel" at the starting line, LOL. Otherwise the Mach I would have been door handle/door handle with me.

Cowboy, when I bought my 03 Mach 1 it already had a catted x-pipe, 2 chamber flowmasters, 4:10 gear, and short throw shifter. Can't name brand names as I haven't been able to get under the car yet nor have I tore into the shifter. Unofficially my car will run in the high 12's to low 13's depending on track. At 60 mph I'm wrapping 2K and at 70 mph I'm wrapping 2300. Here is the downfall of 4:10's. Great for racing but geared too low for daily driver. I don't use first gear unless I'm getting ready to run. Also the 4:10 forces you to stay in your power range which burns more gas. Sorry this is so lengthy and it's just my opinion.

Cool Re: Need Mach1 Modification Advice, Please!

I Bleed Blue, Thanks for the reply. We've decided to go with 410's and the worst thing that could happen would be having to change them again. Couple hours of labor! oh well. Plus we 're going with the Pro 50 shifter with an after market adjustable handle. How about a picture of your car? We don't have one to post yet, ours is white with black stripe. Would like to do something different with the stripe, any ideas? Where do you live? We live on the California/ Oregon border. We have a foot of snow can't even drive the Mach right now!!!!!!!!!! But we can go hunting in the Dodge.

Cowboy, can't help you with the stripe as I'm kind of a default stock guy. Mine didn't have the IUP so I put on the brushed AC and shifter bezel with ring, also put Stainless pedals as well as Bullitt fuel door. The only other ext mod I'm going to make is chrome Mach 1 wheels. Oh, and I don't have a digital camera so no pics but it is Azure Blue. Also I live in Kansas and haven't got to drive much because of Ice.

At least go with 4.10's if not 4.30's. With gears, DR's, X pipe, and some decent driving you'd probaly get a 12.9 @ 107 out of it.

A friend of mine here has a '04 Mach 1 with 4.30's, DR's, X pipe, Supertuner hand held tuner, and a mass air. He runs consistent 12.7's @ 109. This is in South Florida. The 4.30's are PERFECT. Every one I know with a Mach one wishes they would have went with 4.30's.

And they do make a Vortech for them that on an otherwise stock motor makes a reported 480 rwhp. Problem is those stock Mach 1 bottom ends like to explode under boost from what I've heard (hypereutectic pistons I think).

The '03 Mach 1's have the hypereutectic pistons (black valve covers), and the '04 mach 1's have forged (alum. valve covers).

I Bleed Blue:
We're doing 26 mph at 4000 rpm in 1st gear. What do you do in 1st gear at 4000 rpm?

I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know. I do know at 5000 I'm doing 20 mph. So I assume that I will probably be doing 16 mph at 4000. You still have the stock 3.55 right? Again I don't use 1st gear unless I'm ready to run it. My 2nd gear is pretty comparable to your 1st.

If you haven't bought the Pro 5.0 yet, look into the MGW handle.

I wish I'd have known about it when I bought mine. They are sick.

Oh yeah, and I've got a friend who ran 12.69 @ 106.47 in his Mach with 4.10's and SLP catback and slicks. The man can drive.

yes MGW they are local guys give them money!! The only thing I hated about the Pro 5.0 is that my buddies kept falling apart while he was driving. Talk about scary when you go to shift and no shifter. I have always stuck with Steeda Tri-ax. 12's Should be real easy with gears. I know of stock Mach 1s that have run 12.9s.

I knew the valve covers were different but the forged pistons is news to me. Are you sure about that?

'03 and '04 Mach1's both have the same hyperutetic pistons, and powdered metal rods. They just didn't paint the covers on the '04's.

My friend and I both went 13.1 with the mach 1's in stock form. On a drag radial they are good for 12.9's. We both installed L/t's and full exhaust. His now runs 12.2's on a DR. I have yet to try DR's on mine. The best I've run is a 12.85 on stock rubber with a 2.01 short time. Hope this helps.
