I Got It!!!
yesterday i bought a black 98 cobra with 53,000 miles on it. Everything is mint on this car. The only mods are a CAI, O/R h-pipe, flowmasters, and black tailpipes that Ill probably switch out for chrome. Sorry to brag but this thing is amazing...going from my previous 92 LX 5.0 is huge. The LX for some reason would only run high 15's. My friend with a 2002 GT who ran a 13.75 said that my car will smoke him (saving it for the track). So Im into the modular world now instead of windsor. I dont know much about the 4.6's, especially the DOHC cobra. So can any of you give me an idea of what kind of power I have? horsepower, torque, 1/4 times, 0-60? Thanks a lot in advance.

To tell you the truth if the Cobra has stock gears I think the GT will have the advantage.
My car has similar bolt-ons to your GT (also have Al flywheel, spec stage II clutch, Al driveshaft and some weight reduction) and I can pull on '99-'01 Cobras even from a roll (which are a bit faster than '96-'98s) until I have to go to 5th gear. So with 4.10s and bolt-ons in the GT if you get a good launch I don't think he can catch you.

just ran 4.6litreGT at gateway. He beat me every time. His best was a 13.89 i think, my best was a 14.3. Not trying to make excuses, but it was probably because of my horrible driving and the fact that it was like 90 degrees today. Also, my car has a pretty bad exhaust leak where the h-pipe meets the manifold. Could this cause a significant loss of power? The dealership is fixing it soon but i was just curious. thanks.

my reaction times and 60 fts. were really really bad. The 14.3 I ran had the best of both. .228 R/T and 2.221 60ft. I told you im a bad driver. O well, Ill get better with practice.

14.3 isnt bad for ur 1st time out with it. dont feel bad. i've been drag racing for some time an i only got my stock 96 cobra to go 14.0 @ 102.
because the 4 valve is high rever, they like steep gear ratios, minamum of 4.10's-4.56. but be warned that once u do this it will trick out the computer... according to pauls highperformance. so u will need a chip burned to get the full advantage. i just found all this out recenty when i geared my cobra... but anyways, a gear an traction could put u in the 12's if u can shift the car like u stole it!

I was talking to a guy at Infineon yesterday who had a '96 Cobra. His was all stock except for 3.73s and he was pulling 13.7-13.8 with crappy 2.2 60-fts. He said he was definitely going to swap in some steeper gears.
I ran a 13.7@101 (13.5@102 corrected for density altitude) in my GT with a 2.1 60-ft. My roadrace suspension kills me on the launch.

u got 4.10s ehh.. well in theory u should make ur buddy see ur tailights, but practice makes perfect. u should be shifting around 6500 with that cobra. where are u shifting at right now?
an remember what i said bout the chip.. thats very likely the problem

I was shifting at 6800 (red line) Where can i get the chip for the computer to recognize the 4.10's? and how much do they go for? Also, he got the jump on me every time and all i did was spin the tires.
