Is this much power possable?
My buddy has a 2002 GT. He blew the bottom end ( over-revved it, prob. messed up heads too?), anyway he is rebuilding with Patriot heads probably longtube headers, a better intake (I hope), 9.5-10.0 to 1 pistons, and the bigger cams I think:
CCA-102300 Summit #, 236*/240* .500" or, CCA-102700 """"" # 242*/246* .550" lift, I think it's the first cams, anyway he's claiming the "guy" at the shop says It'll make 330hp to the wheels?? Possable??

Re: Is this much power possable?
With those parts it is possible although I would put that at the upper end without knowing what else is done to the car.

CCA-102700 Summit part# 242*/246* .550" lift
These are the cams he's getting. Also has pullies, 4.10 gears, shifter, subframes, CAI, I'm not sure if he is going up on T.B., or mass air, fuel injectors - pump. Should he? If so what sizes? What else does he need? He's got an Auburn posi and moser axles already(from when he broke a stock axle and crept on down the track ruining the trac-loc carrier) PS I don't know anything about OHV 4.6 motors, I love my pushrod 5.0, but I'm trying to help him not get ripped off. Thanks guys Thanks Jeff

Re: Is this much power possable?
sounds reasonable abount of power but with the heads and cams
hes gonna need an intake t-body to match his heads and cams..a pump and injectors wont hurt

Re: Is this much power possable?
I'm just Wondering about the Patriot heads? Are these made in USA or just Chinese knock off's? Don't have anything against Patriot heads, but havn't heard much about their origin or their potential.

Re: Is this much power possable?
We raced on the street the other day, just through 2nd, he beat me by a 1/4 car, we left good and clean but he's got 4.10's to my 3.73's and he wasn't really pulling me at all so I think I'd have run him down in the 1/8th? we'll see.
Also I was told his 2000 GT wheighs less than my 88 GT true?

Re: Is this much power possable?
OK, NOW HE HAS A BIG PROBLEM.
He has a rod knocking, long story shorter the boss at the shop wasn't there when he picked the car up. The man who assembled the motor told him they had broke it in to seat the rings and changed the oil, cut open filter to check for metal, debris, ect..,everything was fine. He let him take the car and told him to change oil & filter in 500mi., and again at 500 more, which he did. He has put about 2000 mi on the car and the last time he had the oil changed at a jiffy lube or somthing like that. Anyway the oil was changed on may 4th and the knocking started a month and a few days later, he took the car back to the shop on tues. 6/12 and the owner (who is a 14 year master machanic) said it sounded like a flywheel bolt was lose, the next morning (today) he said is was a rod and the car only had 2 quarts of oil in it and that caused it, taking any blame off himself, 5 days before he took it back we checked the oil and it was fine, I saw it myself. This guy's trying to say that the place that changed the oil only put in 2 quarts!! SO, he drove it for over a month before it started knocking, the idiot light never came on and oil pressure was good all the way to returning it to the shop, and now it's 3 quarts low? I went there with him today as he is young and I think this guy is trying to screw him, and the guy was all in a hurry to go to lunch and wouldn't talk to us but a couple minutes. In that time as I calmly asked him some questions he got all defensive and started talking about how the car shouldn't have left witout his OK (his fault) and that he was supposed to bring it back in 1000mi. for them to check which I told you the other man told him diffrent (their fault again) and how they had on video tape where the dipstick showed way low on oil, now come on!! Where is the shot of them draining out 21/2-3 quarts is what I'd like to know! Then out of nowhere he starts talking about "don't even try to sue me I'll win for sure " on and on, we never said anything like that at all we were just trying to see what was going to have to be done and he went off, saying it's not gonna cost him nothing..yada,yada.... So should he sue, he doesn't want to but the motor has a warranty and he's already paid over 5000 and supplied the heads and longtube headers. What can he do??????????? |

Re: Is this much power possable?
As a shop owner, a pretty well versed engineer, and having been involved in similar cases as an expert witness, he's got an uphill battle if he intends to sue. There's just too many variables involved to be able to show fault without reasonable doubt.
Sorry to say, but he's probably going to have to suck it up and take the losses. In the performance world, there are generally no warranties expressed or implied. Now you say his motor has a warranty (in writing?), undoubtably a warranty against defects in workmanship by the shop that built the engine. Since its 2000 miles down the road and others have had ample opportunity at the motor (i.e. Jiffy Lube), a court of law will likely dismiss the shop's warranty without prejudice. BTW: Your openly public admission of having raced him on the street is cause enough alone to have the case dismissed.
