Cheap cold air kit crap?
I know we live in a world of you get what you pay for but have you guys seen the "cold air kits" on e bay for like $30? They are sold by some ricer looking outfit and i was wondering if anybody had any experance with these kits? I dont have any illusions of any horsepower gains but i am a firm beliver that "cold" intake charge is better and the smooth tubes half to be better than the stock corigated rubber. So my thinking is how can you mess up tubes? But thought i would run my idea by you guys/(girls). any feed back would be great.

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
I had one, it was ok. I took it off because the tube goe4s through the fenderwell and points straight down. My car is lowered and sometimes it gets driven in the rain and I worried about it sucking in water when we get one of our famous flash floods. I put my stock airbox with the K & N back on minus the air silencer tube, didn't really notice much difference.

Save your money...
As far as N\A modulars go. Take off the silencer and drop in a K&N. If you're dead set on a cold-air kit for a modular, the Rousch set up works well, but is pricey...

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
The cheapies on Ebay are actually decent for the money...but most of them include a filter that can starve your'e engine of air. I put one on my Crown Vic but used a 7" K&N filter. JUST FOR LOOKS...

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
Well i received the kit and installed it on my car. It did'nt fit quite right the tube that goes from the throttle body to the mass air was like 3/4 of an inch too short but i just redrilled the holes in the plate that goes on the fender and "opened up" the u shape slot at the top and every thing fit like a charm. Red was right the air filter was way too small so i ordered an oval shape k&n like the ones the bbk kit comes with. So overall I saved some money but it did require some modification and buying a new air filter.

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
Sell the filter on Ebay...it will sell, that's what I did. Glad things worked out.
When you do finish the install with the other filter, make sure you keep an eye on the clamp that holds the filter on the tube. It is likely to come loose every once in a while, especially if you oil the filter and the oil gets on the inner portion of the filter (rubber part). Just making note, I've seen a whole bunch of ricer guys show up to a meet and pop their hood with no filter, hilarious to say the least.

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
Gears will get you to point A to point B alot quicker than a cold air kit...

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
3:73's aren't going to hurt your top speed...do not fear the gear!!!
3:73's are mild...

Re: Cheap cold air kit crap?
Well driver technique is all in the numbers but it is not unusual for 5.0 fox bodies to run anywhere from mid 14's to mid 13's in the 1/4 with just a gear swap. When I owned my 5.0's back 1985 and 1992, I did the gear swap in both and the difference was like night and day. There's so much you can do with 5.0 it isn't even funny...with a small budget.
Only way to get the definitive answer is to "DO IT"... Good luck...
